About this role

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated Registered learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) Registered Mental health Nurse (RMN) or Registered General Nurse (RGN) to work as a CHC Nurse Assessor for Gloucestershire ICB.

We are looking for an individual who has excellent assessment and communication skills. The successful applicant will need to demonstrate the ability to work both as part of a team and also be able to work autonomously across agencies.

As a Band 6 CHC Nurse Assessor you will be responsible for determining the eligibility for NHS Continuing Healthcare funding through new assessments, review assessments and appeals, in accordance with the National Continuing Health Care Framework. The role at times involves case management of individuals that are eligible for NHS CHC funding.

Main duties of the job

Nurse Assessors are expected to:

Undertake nursing care assessments including Continuing Health Care (CHC) assessments.

Review Funded Nursing Care (FNC) and CHC packages.

Have a knowledge of the CHC Framework.

Be highly motivated and keen to learn/develop (training in respect of the NHS CHC Framework and its application will be provided as part of induction);

Be accustomed to a high degree of autonomy on a day-to-day basis;

Have excellent verbal and written communication skills, with attention to detail;

Have excellent people management skills with experience of difficult situations and challenging individuals and the ability to manage these effectively and calmly;

Be comfortable working with a wide variety of ages and individuals with very different clinical conditions.

Have excellent time management skills and thrive on working at pace.

Have excellent knowledge of Microsoft office and have intermediate typing skills.

Be comfortable with changes at short notice.

Be able to travel daily across the county.

Ability to analyse and interpret information, pre-empt and evaluate issues, and recommend and appropriate course of action to address the issues. Problem solving skills and ability to respond to sudden unexpected demands. Strategic thinking ability to anticipate. Attention to detail combined with the ability to extract key messages from complex analysis. Independent thinker with demonstrated good judgement, problem-solving and analytical skills.

Desirable

Takes decisions on difficult and contentious issues where they may be a number of courses of action.

Communication skills Essential

Clear communicator with excellent writing, report writing and presentation skills; capable of constructing and delivering clear ideas and concepts concisely and accurately for diverse audiences. Evidence of success in efficient and effective project and programme management. Skills for communication on complex matters and difficult situations, requiring persuasion and influence. Skills for nurturing key relationships and maintaining networks.

Planning Skills Essential

Skills for project management.

Previous experience in project management and planning.

Qualifications Essential

Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area. NMC registration required, RGN/RNLD/RMN. Registered Learning Disability Nurse (RNLD) Registered Mental health Nurse (RMN) or Registered General Nurse (RGN).

Experience Essential

Further training or significant experience in project management, financial management or supporting change management processes. Experience and understanding of evaluating and measuring the performance of health services. Experience in communications and stakeholder management.

Desirable

Comprehensive knowledge of project management and/or health information systems development. Workforce development knowledge and experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft Project ECDL. Previous experience in similar role in public sector. A good understanding of the health and social care environment and roles and responsibilities within it.

Management Skills Essential

Ability to engender trust and confidence and demonstrate integrity in the provision of advice and support. Skills for managing projects ensuring they meet financial targets.
