Role Overview

We are looking for a Senior Scientist to join our Research & Data Team. This role provides advanced scientific, analytical, and technical leadership across a range of projects using real‑world patient data from neuromuscular disease registries.

You will define scientific approaches, deliver high‑impact research, and help shape the future of TREAT‑NMD’s registry and research ecosystem. The role also supports strategic thinking across the organisation and contributes to the development of our research infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

Scientific Leadership & Project Delivery

Build relationships with Key Opinion Leaders across the NMD field to identify collaborative research opportunities. Work with Principal Investigators and internal teams to deliver research projects and complex data workstreams, and lead projects where required. Define scientific approaches, analytical plans, and methodological frameworks. Provide day‑to‑day direction to scientists and analysts on assigned work. Identify risks early and propose solutions to maintain quality and timelines.

Scientific Analysis & Programming

Conduct high‑level statistical analysis and data interrogation using Excel, R, Python, SQL or similar tools. Produce publication‑ready analyses, figures, dashboards, and quality‑controlled datasets. Lead improvements in analytical practice, coding standards, and reproducible workflows.

Research Outputs & Publication Development

Act as lead author on abstracts, posters, white papers, and journal articles. Review and quality‑check scientific outputs produced by junior colleagues.

Registry Network Engagement & Collaboration

Represent TREAT‑NMD in selected disease subgroups and registry initiatives. Work with registry curators, clinicians, and partners to support collaborative data enquiries. Contribute to global registry cohesion and data harmonisation efforts.

Strategic and Organisational Contribution

Provide expert input to proposals, funding bids, and infrastructure development plans. Contribute actively to scientific discussions and organisational development. Support senior leaders with evidence synthesis, background research, and scoping papers (e.g., registry futures work). Help shape methodological and technical direction within the Research & Data Team.

Skills & Competencies

Scientific & Analytical Skills

Strong understanding of the scientific method. Proficiency in SQL, Python, R, and modern data management techniques.

Project Leadership

Experience leading defined projects and managing competing priorities. Strong problem‑solving abilities and the confidence to work autonomously.

Communication & Influence

Ability to present complex information clearly and confidently. Strong writing skills for academic and strategic audiences.

Stakeholder Engagement

Personable, open, and able to build positive working relationships at all levels.

Collaboration & Team Contribution

Supports junior team members through informal mentoring. Contributes to continuous improvement, team development, and knowledge‑sharing.

Essential:

PhD or equivalent experience in a biomedical, biological, or related discipline. Experience working in academia or industry ideally for at least 3 years beyond PhD Experience leading scientific project components or work packages. Working knowledge of R, Python, SQL etc Proven experience in writing scientific publications and analysing data for publication. Experience working in a field relevant to neuromuscular disease, rare disease, or registry-collected real-world data.

Desirable:

Experience working in neuromuscular diseases Experience in cross‑disciplinary scientific collaboration. Knowledge of infrastructure and methodology development.
