Position Overview <div>Heavy Road Construction Equipment Operators is a skilled poition which supports heavy civil and highway construction projects. This position is responsible for operating a variety of heavy construction equipment used in roadway, site development, grading, excavation, utility, and paving operations. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, equipment care, quality workmanship, and teamwork while contributing to the successful completion of construction projects.</div> Essential Duties and Responsibilities <ul> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Operate heavy construction equipment in a safe and efficient manner, including but not limited to motor graders, excavators, dozers, loaders, rollers, scrapers, backhoes, skid steers, and haul trucks.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Perform grading, excavation, earthmoving, roadway construction, aggregate placement, and site preparation activities.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Read and interpret grade stakes, site plans, blueprints, and GPS machine control systems.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections and complete required equipment inspection reports.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Monitor equipment performance and promptly report maintenance needs, mechanical issues, or safety concerns.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Maintain production and quality standards while meeting project schedules and deadlines.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Work closely with supervisors, forepersons, truck drivers, survey crews, and other team members to ensure efficient project execution.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, including OSHA, MSHA (where applicable), and DOT regulations.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Assist with labor activities when equipment operation is not required.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Maintain clean and organized equipment and work areas.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Ensure proper protection of underground and overhead utilities during excavation and grading operations.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Participate in safety meetings, trainings, and company-sponsored programs.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Adapt to changing project requirements and work assignments as needed.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Travel between job sites as required.</li> <li style="font-family:arial, helvetica, sans-serif;font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Perform additional duties as assigned to support operational needs.</li> </ul> Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education and/or Experience <ul> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.</li> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black"> <div>One to two years of heavy equipment operating experience in road construction, heavy civil construction, excavation, utility construction, or related fields.</div> </li> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black"> <div>Experience operating one or more types of heavy construction equipment with demonstrated proficiency.</div> </li> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black"> <div>Experience working around underground utilities, roadway construction, grading, or earthwork activities preferred.</div> </li> </ul> Language Skills <ul> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence.</li> </ul> Mathematical Skills <ul> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.</li> </ul> Reasoning Ability <ul> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions</li> </ul> Computer Skills <ul> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">None</li> </ul> Certificates, Licenses, Registrations <ul> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Valid driver’s license required.</li> </ul> Competencies To perform the job successfully; an individual should demonstrate the following competencies: <ul> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Be able to operate Paddle Wheel Scraper, Wheel Dozer, Excavator and Blade.</li> </ul> Other Skills and Abilities: <ul> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">MSHA Training</li> <li style="font-size:10.0pt;color:black">Familiar with GPS</li> </ul> Other Qualifications Commercial Driver's License not required, but a plus.
