HR Advisor

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive HR Advisor to join the HR team at The Adam Practice. This is an exciting opportunity for an HR professional who is passionate about supporting people.

This is a new position with the opportunity to work in a generalist HR advisory role alongside working with an expanding research team to support their recruitment and employee relations.

Working closely with managers, surgery leads and the research team and you will provide high-quality HR advice across the employee lifecycle while helping to create an inclusive, supportive and high-performing working environment.

We are looking for candidates who are:

CIPD Level 3 qualified (or equivalent experience). Experience in a generalist HR advisory role. Strong knowledge of UK employment law and HR best practice. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills. The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Strong organisational skills and attention to detail. An interest in healthcare research is desirable, but not essential. Working Pattern: 30 hours per week, days to be decided

Main duties of the job

To provide comprehensive and professional HR support to all areas of the organisation by offering advice and guidance in line with legislation and organisational policies and procedures.

You will provide advice to managers and staff on a wide range of employment queries/issues, including sickness, grievance, disciplinary, performance and attendance management. You will ensure that any problems are identified and dealt with in a timely and professional manner and ensure there is a clear line of communication for both the employee and the manager throughout.

Your role will involve being the first point of contact for all recruitment within the organisation, specifically research, including advertising vacancies, assisting with interviews and managing the onboarding process.

You will work with the HR manager to assist with implementing new strategies, updating policies and procedures and providing advice to line managers where appropriate.

Your role will involve fostering a positive culture and forging strong relationships with colleagues whilst embedding organisational values.

Operational Responsibilities

HR:

Supporting first line management and employee enquiries quickly and competently. Dealing with general queries from managers and staff on terms and conditions of service, this will include interpreting and advising on employment legislation and organisational policies and procedures. Advertise roles, assist with interviews and complete the onboarding for new and existing research employees Assisting with reviewing and updating job descriptions Advising managers on recruitment and selection strategies Assisting with training hiring managers on candidate interview evaluation techniques Assisting with and developing recruitment campaigns Coordinating the appointment process for successful applicants Assisting with monitoring key recruitment turnover and retention rates Negotiating terms and conditions of employment with staff in conjunction with managers Providing advice and involved in work reviews and change processes Using HR information systems to access, input and compile data Identifying development needs within the HR team and wider teams Suggesting HR solutions to improve day-to-day operations Assisting the HR Manager with sickness reporting Managing employee relationships, responding to any queries or problems that they have and managing expectations Researching and recommending performance evaluation methods (e.g. employee appraisal systems) Assisting with monitoring, reviewing and updating HR policies and ensuring these are in line with current legislation Ensuring all employee appraisals are up-to-date and advising managers if overdue

Assist the HR manager with coaching and supporting managers through formal sickness, grievance, performance capability management processes and disciplinary investigations by providing HR advice and attending meetings as appropriate. Such cases may be sensitive or contentious and the post holder will require influencing and persuasion skills to overcome resistance from employees and managers. Inputting data into external sources as required by our GP contract Assisting with HR projects and initiatives Ensuring HR activities are compliant with GDPR Assisting with and arranging and delivering training on HR applications/policies and procedures Contribute to a staff newsletter To work closely with the research team to support employee relations and day-to-day HR enquiries

Attend research governance meetings Understand research safety reporting through NIHR learning (training will be provided)

Other:

To work with the colleagues to ensure smooth running of the management office.

Open and distribute management team post (where appropriate)

Answer telephone calls and respond to directly or pass messages to other members of the team.

To assist managers to ensure practice policies and protocols are updated and upheld

Respond to all queries for assistance from doctors, clinical and practice staff and patients in an efficient manner.

To undertake specific assigned tasks, project support, or development / change work which may arise from time to time.

To take responsibility for own personal continuous professional development ensuring up to date skills and competencies

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of working with line managers acting as a point of contact to provide accurate advice on a range of HR topics Application of HR processes in line with practice protocols and employment law requirements. Effective communication with line managers and candidates during recruitment process. Working accurately under pressure, whilst remaining calm and courteous Experience preparing contractual documents for employee. Experience working online, placing orders, tracking, booking events, courses and making payments Experience researching and recommending performance evaluation methods

Desirable

Interest in Research and Development within a healthcare setting Developing HR strategies to meet business needs Evaluating current processes and presenting and implementing a change process Supporting line & HR managers with capability, disciplinary and grievance investigations Experience of training managers/colleagues within a HR capacity

Qualifications Essential

CIPD level 3 qualification or equivalent experience Excellent Communication Skills (verbal & written) Proficient in using MS Word/Excel/Outlook Ability to self-motivate, organise and prioritise workload to meet deadlines Ability to use own judgment and common sense Ability to work independently as well as part of a team Knowledge of employment law and awareness of its application Ability to recognise developmental needs across the organisation
