We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Psychologist to join team at HMP Weatstun, a category C Prison located near Wetherby, Yorkshire.
HMP Wealstun is a busy male prison with a capacity for around 911 inmates that supports training and resettlement. The ideal candidate will either have experience as an Assistant Psychologist or have completed a degree in Psychology and have previously worked in a prison. You will work within the Mental Health team which consists of around 12 colleagues such as Mental Health Nurses, Psychiatrists, Psychologists and have support from another Assistant Psychologist. Hours
Monday - Friday
0900 - 1700 Salary
This position is full time, youll receive an annual salary from £29,264 to £33,5510 per annum.

Main duties of the job
As an Assistant Psychologist your responsibilities will vary. You will:
To support and enhance the professional psychological care of patients within the service/ team, across all pathways, providing psychological assessment and psychological interventions. Identify patients who may benefit from psychological intervention, following mental health triages and in discussion with the multi-disciplinary team and, where demand exceeds capacity, prioritise according to clinical need, risk presentation and release planning in line with agreed service policy and under the guidance of the qualified psychologist; Provide comprehensive psychological assessment, including risk assessment, and develop psychological formulations to support patients and other members of the MDT in making sense of their difficulties in line with agreed guidance from the qualified psychologist; Identify and deliver appropriate individual and group interventions to patients in line with the Psychological Therapies Service. Qualifications, skills and experience required:
Experience working as an Assistant Psychologist OR a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology and previous prison experience Knowledge of evidenced based psychological therapies relevant to managing mental health distress Understanding of complex mental health issues and presentations and the role of trauma on offending behaviour; Ability to work autonomously and as part of an MDT Experience of providing evidence based psychological interventions to adults with a range of mental health problems. Ability to respond effectively to service users who may be distressed, angry, intimidating or violent; Secure environments are one of the most challenging, yet rewarding places for healthcare professionals to work.
