Job summary
Western Road Surgery is looking for a General Practitioner to join their progressive, forward thinking clinical team at the surgery. The GP team is made up of 6 partners, and 1 salaried GP. The surgery also employs a pharmacist and nursing team, as well as a clinical coding team, reception team and home visiting team. As a GP here, correspondence, prescription queries and the majority of home visits are completed by other teams. The surgery also uses AccuRX for their digital triage system, used effectively each day.
Main duties of the job
Clinical Care: GPs assess, diagnose, and treat a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions for patients of all ages. They perform physical examinations, take medical histories, order and interpret diagnostic tests, and provide appropriate treatments or referrals to specialists when necessary. They also manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and heart disease, adjusting treatment plans and educating patients on self-care.
Preventive Care and Health Education: GPs provide routine check ups, immunizations, screenings, and lifestyle guidance, including diet, exercise, and smoking cessation, to prevent health problems and promote wellness. They educate patients on managing chronic conditions and maintaining overall health.

Main Responsibilities

They also manage chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, and heart disease, adjusting treatment plans and educating patients on self-care.
Preventive Care and Health Education: GPs provide routine check-ups, immunizations, screenings, and lifestyle guidance, including diet, exercise, and smoking cessation, to prevent health problems and promote wellness. They educate patients on managing chronic conditions and maintaining overall health.
Administrative Duties: GPs maintain accurate patient records, document care and education provided, issue prescriptions, and manage referrals. They may also handle billing, insurance claims, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Collaboration and Teamwork: GPs work closely with nurses, pharmacists, allied health professionals, and other specialists to ensure comprehensive patient care. They participate in practice audits, accreditation activities, and after-hours or on-call services as needed.
Professional Development: GPs are expected to maintain current medical knowledge through continuing education, adhere to professional standards and legislation, maintain medical indemnity insurance, and hold current resuscitation certification.

Experience Essential

Qualifications Essential
Registered with the GMC Completion of a Residency Programme in General Practice
