The Shelly Company is known throughout the industry for innovation, quality and for our commitment to safety. <div> </div>Position Overview The deckhand will be responsible for all duties on tow boats as well as general labor duties at Gallipolis Asphalt Facility as well as other locations as required. <h3 style="margin:0.0in 1.0in 0.0in 0.0in;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:Arial, sans-serif">Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)</h3> The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: <ul style="margin-bottom:0.0in;margin-top:0.0px"> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Assist the boat pilot, supervisor or operations manager with the daily operations and upkeep of the boat or asphalt facility.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Ability to maintain and safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment, including but not limited to Frontend Loader and Skid Steer Loader.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Clean and sweep barges.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Other miscellaneous duties include but are not limited to; general labor, shoveling, performing necessary equipment maintenance, assisting foreperson and/or crew members as needed.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Responsible for maintaining a clean work environment which includes all equipment.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">May perform welding and fabrication duties as required.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Ability to detect safety hazards and equipment malfunctions and respond accordingly.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Ability to follow directions. </li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Responsible for any documentation that is required to be completed, including maintenance and safety documentation.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">General understanding of OSHA & MSHA regulations.</li> </ul> Other Requirements <ul style="margin-bottom:0.0in;margin-top:0.0px"> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Must have 2 years of deckhand experience.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the general public at all times.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Report to the assigned job ready to begin work at the designated start time.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Strict adherence to The Shelly Company Manual of Safety Practices & Procedures.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Strict adherence to The Shelly Company policies and procedures as outlined in the book of company policies.</li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required. </li> <li style="margin:0.0in 0.0in 0.0in 32.0px;font-size:12.0pt;font-family:'Times New Roman', serif">Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment in designated operations and production areas. Education and Experience High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Must have 2 years of deck hand experience. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Mathematical Skills Ability to perform basic mathematical skills. Reasoning Ability Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
