About this role

Job summary

This is a full-time clinical research fellowship within the Department of Radiology at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, supporting the Trust's cancer imaging research programme and the delivery of high-quality imaging response assessment for clinical trials.

The post is intended for a radiologist who is post-FRCR or equivalent, with full General Medical Council (GMC) registration or is eligible for full GMC registration. The successful candidate will contribute to clinical imaging, support Biomedical Research Centre (BRC)-related imaging research, as well as develop and provide expertise in Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumours (RECIST) and other response criteria within a specialist oncology centre.

Main duties of the job

Receive structured training in the Royal Marsden RECIST/imaging response assessment workflow, including use of local software systems and reporting processes. Support the RECIST service. Undertake baseline RECIST assessments and contribute to follow-up response assessments. Review and advise on complex trial imaging queries, including lesion selection, new lesion assessment, target/non-target lesion interpretation, and response categorisation. Participate in relevant clinical trials meetings, including the weekly RECIST meeting and other tumour-specific trial imaging meetings as required.

Person Specification

Status Essential

Full registration and license to practice with the General Medical Council FRCR or equivalent specialist radiology qualification.

Desirable

Post-CCT status Higher degree or active interest in pursuing MD, PhD, or publication-based academic development. Good Clinical Practice training

Experience Essential

Experience in diagnostic radiology at senior trainee, or equivalent level. Experience in oncological CT and MRI interpretation.

Desirable

Subspecialty experience in cancer imaging, including CT and MRI across multiple tumour types. Prior experience of RECIST, iRECIST, Lugano, PCWG, or other structured imaging response criteria.

Skills, Abilities & Knowledge Essential

Ability and willingness to work within a multi-disciplinary team IT skills Effective communicator with a wide range of audiences Ability to make clinically sound imaging assessments and recognise when consultant input is required.

Desirable

Prior presentations, publications, audit, quality improvement, or grant involvement. Experience with quantitative imaging, region-of-interest analysis, image segmentation, radiomics, diffusion-weighted MRI, perfusion imaging, or other imaging biomarker methods. Experience of teaching radiographers, radiology trainees, fellows, or multidisciplinary colleagues.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to work with radiographers, oncologists, trial teams, and imaging scientists.
