Applications are invited for Consultant Physicians in Respiratory & General (Internal) Medicine as part of the Medicine Division here at Darent Valley Hospital.

We are delighted to offer a new and exciting opportunity for substantive Respiratory Consultant to join the Respiratory team at Dartford & Gravesham NHS Trust. The position has become available following the approval of a business case for the review, expansion and innovation of our current services.

Main duties of the job

We have recognised the need to deliver newer services and expand capacity within Respiratory to help meet the demand of our local population.

Our endeavours inlcude introducing or further developing the following:

COPD Asthma Pulmonary Nodules Lung Cancer Pulmonary Hypertension Non-invasive Ventilation Sleep services

Job description Job responsibilities

The post holder will have the option to join the General Physician on-call rota (1 in 16) for non-selected acute take. This consists of post-take ward rounds in the morning and then post-take ward rounds mid-day & evening.

A formal Job Plan will be agreed between the appointee and their Clinical Director, onbehalf of the Medical Director, within three months after the commencement date of theappointee. This will be signed by the Clinical Director and will be effective from thecommencement date of the appointment. The Job Plan will then be reviewed annually,following the Appraisal Meeting.

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

GMC Recognised Medical Degree (MBBS or Equivalent). MRCP (UK or Ireland) or equivalent. CCT in Respiratory & General (Internal) Medicine or be eligible for CCT within 6 months of interview date.

Desirable

Other degrees, e.g. BSc MSc, MD, PhD.

Experience Essential

Full and independent management of clinical patient workload.

Desirable

Level 1 competent in Pleural Ultrasound Sub specialist interest: COPD, Asthma, Pulmonary Nodules, Thoracic Cancer, NIV, Sleep, Pulmonary Hypertension

Clinical Governance Essential

Involvement and understanding of Clinical Governance and Clinical Audit.

Teaching Essential

Ability to teach and support learning activities of medical undergraduates, junior medical, nursing, technical and other clinical staff.

Research Essential

Experience of collaborative clinical or laboratory research.

Desirable

To have published clinical work in peer-reviewed journals.

Knowledge & Skills Essential

Commitment to Continuing Medical Education. Awareness of current general medical practices. Computer-literate in office applications (word processing, presentation, spreadsheet and database analysis) Ability to use internet applications (Web and E-mail)

Desirable

Knowledge of IT-based patient information systems.
