Job summary
We are looking to appoint a talented and experienced Clinical Educator to join our Learning & Development team supporting the professional development of clinical staff, including the inpatient and community teams with some crossover of people and interpersonal skills being developed and delivered to our non-clinical colleagues.
You will support the delivery of multi-disciplinary programmes, delivering exceptional service by developing, implementing and evaluating educational and developmental activities.

Main duties of the job
We have an exciting opportunity for a Registered Nurse with a valid UK NMC registration to join our team, supporting colleagues to develop their clinical skills, and their competences and knowledge in palliative and end of life care. About us
Thames Hospice is an independent adult hospice with a beautiful 28 bed hospice at Bray Lake in Maidenhead with views of the lake and state of the art facilities.
We support people aged 16 and over who are living with life-limiting conditions such as cancer, neurological conditions, and organ failure, by combining specialist medical care for managing pain and other symptoms with other emotional, practical and spiritual support. We provide care on our Inpatient Services wings, and also virtually and in person though our community hub and in peoples home though our Hospice at Home service.

Care with Agility
1. Contribute to the development and review of policies and guidelines in line with best practice
2. Participate in audit, clinical review, and research activities, promoting employee engagement and learning from incidents
3. Inform education and training programmes by maintaining up-to-date clinical knowledge and identifying personal development needs
4. Ensure learners understand their responsibility to recognise and escalate changes in a patients condition
5. Contribute to service development and quality improvement through education-led initiatives
Financial Accountability
1. Support the Head of Education in gathering data and evidence to demonstrate achievement of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the impact of education provision
2. Assist with applications for external education opportunities, grants, bursaries, and funding
3. Help manage relationships with external training providers
Supportive Culture
1. Collaborate with the Education Team to design, plan, and deliver a comprehensive education and training programme
oClinical skills (e.g. syringe pumps, catheterisation)
oBroader topics (e.g. communication, human factors, symptom management)
2. Act as a role model, demonstrating clinical expertise and promoting best practice
3. Support employee development through workplace-based learning, supervision, and coaching
4. Facilitate and assess clinical competencies for new and existing employees
5. Deliver engaging classroom-based and practical teaching sessions
6. Work clinically when required to support learners in practice

Extending reach
1. Work collaboratively with external organisations (e.g. care and nursing homes) to design and deliver education and training programmes

To thrive in this role, you will demonstrate:
1. A proactive, enthusiastic approach, and the ability to work independently
2. A strong commitment to delivering person-centred care and ensuring patients are at the heart of all decisions
3. Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse, with degree-level education
4. A palliative and/or end-of-life care qualification, or relevant experience, with willingness to undertake further study as needed
5. A postgraduate education qualification (or equivalent), or willingness to undertake such a qualification
6. Advanced Communication Skills Training (or willingness to complete, including facilitator training)
7. Practice Supervisor and Practice Assessor training (or willingness to achieve)
8. Experience supporting learners and advising employees and managers on learning and development
9. Ability to provide constructive, developmental feedback
10. Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating learning programmes for diverse audiences
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Be currently registered with the NMC as a Registered Nurse, and educated to degree level or equivalent
Special conditions Essential
1. Appointment subject to Enhanced DBS check, Occupational Health clearance, and right-to-work verification 2. Evidence of immunisations (including Covid-19) or willingness to be immunised 3. The role is predominantly Monday Friday, but some flexibility is required around working hours/days on occasions 4. Full UK driving licence and access to a car
