Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
Greeting patients and visitors in a professional and friendly manner.Booking, cancelling, and rearranging patient appointments.Answering telephone calls and responding to patient enquiries.Maintaining accurate patient records and updating information on clinical systems.Processing prescriptions requests in line with practice procedures.Managing incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails and letters.Handling confidential information in accordance with GDPR and practice policies.Supporting clinicians and administrative staff with general office duties.Ensuring the reception area remains organised and welcoming.Managing patient flow and signposting patients to appropriate services.

Working Pattern:
Monday: 8:00am 6:00pmTuesday: 1:00pm - 6:00pmThursday: 12:30pm 6:00pmFriday: 1:00pm 6:00pmWill occasionally need to be available to cover annual leave and staff absence.
Job Purpose
To provide a professional, efficient, and friendly reception and administrative service to patients, clinicians, and colleagues. As the first point of contact for the practice, the GP Receptionist plays a key role in ensuring patients receive excellent service and support while helping to maintain the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong customer service skills. Good organisational skills and attention to detail. Ability to work effectively in a busy environment. Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications. Ability to work as part of a team and independently when required. Professional, reliable, and flexible approach to work.
Desirable
Previous reception or administrative experience. Experience working in a GP surgery, NHS, or healthcare setting. Knowledge of clinical systems such as EMIS Web. Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection requirements.
