Job summary
The University of Plymouth is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated HCPC-registered diagnostic radiographer to join our highly successful diagnostic radiography programmes. This unique role combines university teaching with clinical practice, offering the opportunity to support students from their first simulation experiences through to clinical excellence in practice.
About the Role
As a lecturer in diagnostic radiography, you will work closely with colleagues across the Peninsula Medical School, NHS trusts and independent sector healthcare partners to deliver an outstanding student learning experience. You will contribute to teaching, assessment, student support and clinical training while helping to shape the future of radiography education.
Prior to clinical placements, our students undergo extensive simulation training, aligned to their academic learning, helping prepare them for their future clinical experience. As part of the team, you will support their training, on campus, in both the simulation suite and state of the art learning environments. Working in an acute hospital you will provide practical clinical training for students on placement, supporting them on their journey to clinical excellence.
This is a part-time position, working hours are 18.5 hour per week on a permanent basis. Approximately one day per week (typically Friday during term time) will be based in a clinical imaging department.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities
Deliver high-quality teaching across undergraduate diagnostic radiography programmes through lectures, simulation, practical skills training and clinical education.
Support and mentor students throughout their academic and clinical learning journey, including personal tutoring and assessment activities.
Contribute to clinical radiography services and provide practical training for students within partner imaging departments.
Work collaboratively with NHS and independent sector partners to enhance placement experiences and professional education.
Participate in programme development, scholarship, quality assurance activities and broader academic initiatives within the School.
We are looking for applicants who can demonstrate:
BSc-Hons in Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent qualification.
Current HCPC registration as a diagnostic radiographer.
Significant UK clinical radiography experience and evidence of continuing professional development.
Knowledge of contemporary diagnostic imaging practice and HCPC education standards.
Excellent communication, leadership and teamwork skills, with a passion for supporting student success.
This role requires an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
The successful candidate may be required to obtain an ATAS Certificate prior to this research being undertaken.

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
BSc (Hons) Diagnostic Radiography or equivalent Current HCPC registered diagnostic radiographer with a minimum of 2 years clinical experience within the UK In depth knowledge of current UK diagnostic radiography techniques and advances An ability to employ manual handling techniques, with and without mechanical aids. Evidence of recent CPD Experience of delivering high quality teaching at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level. Demonstrable enhancement to the learning experience through flexible delivery, and pedagogic innovation including the use of digital media, as appropriate to meet the diverse needs of students. Experience of providing support or mentoring for students and/or staff in an education environment. Understanding of University and/or clinical audit, quality assurance and regulatory processes
Desirable
Simulation and work-based clinical teaching experience and mentorship Recognised HE teaching qualification or Fellowship of AHE (or where this is not an essential immediate requirement, the ability to gain this within a defined timescale, usually within 2 years from the date of appointment may be desirable). Excellent understanding of the requirements of delivering a HCPC accredited programme. Professional leadership qualities ability to inspire and motivate others. Track record of successful engagement with key health education stakeholders, internally and externally. Excellent working knowledge of institutional management systems and relevant legislation (clinically and academically) Contributed to quality assurance activities (such as approval, periodic review, student complaints) Excellent I.T Skills Full driving licence
