Job summary
As a Dispenser at Oaklands Health Centre, you will play a vital role in ensuring our dispensing patients receive their medication safely, accurately and efficiently. Working as part of our friendly dispensary team, you will prepare prescriptions, manage stock, maintain accurate records and provide excellent customer service while supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care. We are looking for a candidate who can work 20 hours per week.
Main duties of the job
Dispense prescriptions accurately in accordance with practice procedures and legal requirements. Process repeat prescription requests. Maintain accurate dispensing records. Assist with stock ordering, stock control and storage. Ensure medicines are stored and handled safely. Provide advice within the scope of the role and refer queries appropriately. Work closely with GPs, clinicians and the dispensary team to provide an efficient dispensing service. Experience in using Systmone

Main Duties and Responsibilities
Accurately prepare and dispense prescriptions in accordance with legal requirements and practice procedures.Ensure all prescriptions are clinically authorised prior to dispensing.Select, label and assemble medicines accurately.Perform final accuracy checks where appropriately trained and authorised.Ensure all dispensed medicines are correctly labelled and packaged.Deal with patient medication queries within the limits of the role, referring to a pharmacist or GP where appropriate.Stock ControlOrder and receive pharmaceutical stock.Check deliveries against orders.Rotate stock using expiry dates.Remove expired or damaged medicines promptly.Maintain adequate stock levels to meet patient demand.Ensure medicines are stored correctly, including maintaining the cold chain where applicable.Patient CareProvide a professional, courteous and confidential service to patients.Respond to telephone and face-to-face enquiries relating to prescriptions and dispensing.Explain medication collection procedures to patients.Escalate any concerns regarding prescriptions or patient safety to the appropriate clinician.AdministrationMaintain accurate dispensing records using the clinical computer system.Process repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice procedures.Record batch numbers and expiry dates where required.Complete all necessary documentation relating to dispensing activities.Support prescription reconciliation and audit activities.Safety and QualityComply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Adhere to medicines legislation and NHS guidance.Report dispensing errors, near misses and significant events in line with practice policy.Participate in audits and quality improvement initiatives.Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control procedures.Team WorkingWork collaboratively with GPs, nurses, reception and administration staff.Support colleagues during periods of annual leave or sickness.Attend team meetings and mandatory training.Contribute to the continuous improvement of dispensary services.General Responsibilities

Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
- NVQ Level 2 Dispensing Qualification. - GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
Desirable
- Experience in using Systmone in General Practice. - Understanding of the Drug Tariff and NHS dispensing regulations. - Experience of medicines reconciliation and stock management. - Understanding of CQC standards and primary care regulations.
