Job summary
The ideal candidate will form part of a very friendly, supportive, and dedicated team, much loved by the local community, working in a village dispensing practice on the outskirts of Maidstone. The role involves meeting and greeting patients, handing out medications, and providing a friendly, professional service at all times.
Main duties of the job
Welcome patients attending the dispensary and provide a courteous, professional service at all times.
Hand out prepared prescriptions and dispensed medications accurately and safely.
Collect prescription charges where applicable and process payments in line with NHS and practice procedures.
Issue receipts and maintain accurate records of payments received.
Answer basic patient queries and refer more complex clinical or dispensing enquiries to an appropriate member of the dispensary team.
Ensure exempt patients complete or sign the appropriate NHS declaration forms where required.
Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with GDPR and Caldicott principles.
Respond to telephone enquiries relating to medication collections and direct calls appropriately.
Monitor the dispensary waiting area and ensure it remains clean, tidy and welcoming.
Report any discrepancies, incidents or concerns promptly to the Dispensary Manager or supervising dispenser.
Support stock management by notifying the dispensary team of medications awaiting collection or returned items where appropriate.
Assist with general administrative duties within the dispensary as required.
Work flexibly to support colleagues during periods of increased workload or staff absence.

Yalding Surgery is a well-established dispensing practice serving approximately 7,100 patients in the beautiful Kent countryside, just outside Maidstone.
We are proud of the long-standing relationships we have built with our patients and believe continuity of care remains one of our greatest strengths.
Our clinical team includes three GP partners, experienced practice nurses, healthcare assistants, a paramedic practitioner, two ARRS Clinical Pharmacists and an experienced dispensary and administrative team. We also work closely with a range of Primary Care Network colleagues including Care Coordinators, Mental Health Practitioners and Social Prescribers.

The Dispensary Hatch Assistant is responsible for providing a professional, efficient and friendly service to patients collecting their prescribed medication from the practice dispensary.
Working as part of the dispensary team, the post holder will ensure medications are issued safely and accurately, maintain patient confidentiality and provide excellent customer service while supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the dispensary.

Competency in spoken and written English and Numeracy at GCSE grade C or equivalent
