About this role

We have an exciting research opportunity for a Research Assistant in the laboratory of Dr Andrew Davidson as part of a recently awarded Wellcome CDA.

You will contribute to projects on understanding how cell death contributes to tumourigenesis using Drosophila combined with live-imaging and RNA transcriptomics. As part of this project, the candidate will be working on:

Labelling and live-imaging tumourigenesis within the optically translucent Drosophilapupa. Establishing RNA sequencing protocols for implementation with a Drosophila tumour models (bulk, single-nucleus sequencing, spatial transcriptomics). Creating bespoke analytical pipelines for analysis of Drosophilaspatial transcriptomics data.

We are looking for candidates with specialist theoretical and practical knowledge in the following: Drosophila melanogaster and its genetics, fluorescence-based confocal microscopy, and insect transcriptomics. Candidates should also have significant practical laboratory training in Drosophila genetics e.g. as part of PhD study or other equivalent experience; experience preparing Drosophila for in vivo, timelapse, imaging; and knowledge and experience of conducting transcriptomics in Drosophila including downstream analytical pipelines.
