Job Description:

We are seeking a compassionate and knowledgeable Genetic Counselor to join our team and provide expert genetic counseling and guidance related to hereditary conditions, congenital bleeding and thrombotic disorders and genetic testing.

In this role, you will partner with patients, families, healthcare providers and clinical laboratories to help integrate genetic information into patient care while supporting informed decision-making and delivering exceptional service.

What You'll Do

As a Genetic Counselor, you will: • Provide comprehensive genetic counseling to patients, families, healthcare providers and hospital partners regarding hereditary conditions, genetic risks, testing options and interpretation of results. • Evaluate personal and family medical histories to assess inherited risk factors and recommend appropriate genetic testing strategies. • Explain complex genetic concepts, testing options, reproductive considerations, risks, benefits and limitations in a compassionate and understandable manner. • Obtain informed consent for genetic testing and related procedures. • Coordinate, review and interpret genetic testing results, including next-generation sequencing, Sanger sequencing, PCR-based methods and DNA fragment analysis in collaboration with physicians and clinical laboratories. • Communicate genetic test results and recommendations in a clear, clinically meaningful manner. • Collaborate with multidisciplinary care teams to integrate genetic findings into patient care and treatment planning. • Participate in case conferences, variant review meetings and clinical discussions. • Partner with laboratory teams to support variant interpretation and curation in accordance with ACMG/AMP guidelines. • Advise providers on appropriate genetic test selection based on clinical indications. • Prepare counseling documentation, reports and recommendations while maintaining compliance with regulatory and institutional requirements. • Develop educational materials and provide education to patients, providers and laboratory personnel. • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, compliance activities and continuous process improvement. • Stay current with advances in genetics, genomics and genetic counseling practices.

What To Expect:

Starting Pay: $70k - $85k/yearly based on experience Schedule: Mon - Fri 8a -430p Location: Hemophilia Center of Western PA -- located in the heart of Oakland in downtown Pittsburgh (FREE ON-SITE PARKING!)

What We're Looking For

Education • Master's or Ph.D. in Human Genetics or Genetic Counseling from an ABGC- or ABMG-accredited program, required.

Licensure & Certification • Board Certification or Board Eligibility through the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC), required. • Candidates who are board eligible must obtain ABGC certification within two years of completing their degree. • Must be eligible for temporary/provisional state licensure (where applicable) and obtain full licensure within the required timeframe following board certification.

Experience • Three years of experience in a clinical or laboratory genetics setting, preferred. • Experience with genetic variant interpretation and/or working in a CAP-accredited laboratory, preferred. • Experience counseling both patients and healthcare providers, preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong knowledge of medical genetics, genomics and genetic counseling principles. • Ability to explain complex and sensitive genetic information with empathy and clarity. • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. • Ability to collaborate effectively with patients, families, physicians, laboratory personnel and multidisciplinary healthcare teams. • Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive patient information. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. • Commitment to continuous professional development and lifelong learning.
