Core Job Summary:
The Sr. Security Systems Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, service, troubleshooting, and repair of security systems, hardware, and associated devices to ensure the continuous safety and security of assigned facilities. This role also evaluates existing systems and provides recommendations for expansion, modification, or replacement to improve overall performance and reliability. In addition, the position conducts routine inspections and preventative maintenance, maintains accurate operational records, provides technical support, and ensures all security requirements and standards are consistently met.
Core Responsibilities:
• Communicates with management, vendors, and contractors to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Corrects malfunctions to restore the conformance of equipment to established standards.
• Maintains records of equipment installed and assists in stocking service parts.
• Performs physical inventories of security systems equipment.
• Cleans security systems equipment and work areas.
• Conducts research and analyzes test measurements and other data.
• Reads and makes inferences from blueprints, equipment specifications, schematic drawings, and technical instructions.
• Tests backup batteries, keypad programming, sirens, and other security features to ensure proper functioning.
• Consults with senior managing staff to assess risks and to determine security requirements.
• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Department Specific Functions
• Reports directly to the Security Systems Supervisor and/or Manager, Public Safety Technology Systems, providing advanced technical and operational support for enterprise Public Safety and security technologies across the organization.
• Performs advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of complex security systems, including access control, video surveillance, intrusion detection, electronic locking, delayed egress, and related infrastructure.
• Serves as a senior technical resource and frontline responder for system outages, alarms, service requests, and operational incidents, ensuring timely resolution or escalation.
• Coordinates daily workflow, preventative maintenance, service requests, and technician assignments to ensure efficient and accurate completion of work.
• Supports leadership with technical training, operational coordination, and resource oversight within Security Systems and Public Safety Technology operations.
• Assists with configuration, programming, testing, commissioning, firmware support, and operational readiness of enterprise security systems and devices.
• Provides operational support for systems including Onity, Allegion, badge printing systems, delayed egress systems, and platforms such as Genetec Synergis, Honeywell Pro-Watch, IndigoVision, and Genetec Omnicast.
• Conducts inspections, preventative maintenance, and system health checks to ensure compliance, reliability, and operational continuity.
• Coordinates with IT, vendors, contractors, and internal teams to support troubleshooting, installations, upgrades, and system performance.
• Maintains operational documentation and communicates system issues, outages, and updates to leadership.
• Ensures adherence to departmental procedures and Public Safety operational standards.
• Performs additional duties as assigned in support of Security Systems and Public Safety Technology operations.
Core Qualifications: Associate degree in relevant field Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

• Demonstrated ability to perform technical assignments with accuracy, precision, and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to analyze, prioritize, and manage multiple operational tasks under pressure while meeting established deadlines.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with a high level of discretion and professionalism.
• Flexibility to work varied schedules, including evenings, nights, weekends, and emergency call-back situations as required.
• Commitment to supporting the University’s mission, standards, and core values in daily operations.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively within a team-based environment.
• Proficiency in standard computer applications, including Microsoft Office and related operational systems.
• Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in the performance of job duties.
• Possession of a valid State of Florida driver’s license in good standing.
