ITG is a Joint-Ventures between Trafigura and IFM investment fund, owning and operating various assets such as ports, terminals and multimodal logistics assets chains in export driven emerging markets for both liquid and dry cargos.
Main Purpose:
As a Senior Dayshift Operator, you support the Operations Officer and the broader Operations team in the safe and efficient execution of continuous-shift operations at the Rotterdam liquid terminal. You act as a subject matter expert for key operational processes, including the Vapour Recovery / Treatment Unit (VRU/RTO), water APOR guiding and directing Dayshift Operators, represent Operations in small-scale projects, and ensure that recurring reporting obligations are met accurately and on time.
You work closely with Shift Supervisors, Operators, HSEC, and Maintenance to uphold the highest standards of safety, quality, and continuity.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
• Providing operational support within the continuous-shift organisation, acting as a senior point of reference for Dayshift Operators. • Leading and coordinating the Permit to Work (PTW) system, ensuring safe work practices are consistently applied. • Acting as subject matter expert (SME) for the Vapour Recovery Unit (VRU) and Regenerative Thermal Oxidiser (RTO), including monitoring, control, and guidance. • Acting as Subject Matter Expert for water management systems, ensuring compliant and efficient operation. • Acting as Subject Matter Expert for firefighting system. • Serving as the Operations representative in small projects, coordinating with internal departments and external contractors, during safety studies (Hazop). • Compiling and submitting recurring operational reports accurately and within agreed deadlines. • Directing and mentoring Dayshift Operators in the execution of their daily tasks. • Conducting safety inspections and ensuring adherence to HSEC regulations and terminal procedures. • Supporting maintenance and technical teams during planned and unplanned activities. • Ensuring Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) and Task Risk Assessment (TRA) procedures are correctly applied. • Giving to continuous improvement initiatives within the Operations department.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Vapro-B or Vapro-C certification (required). • Minimum 5 years of experience in an industrial or operational environment, preferably in a liquid bulk terminal. • Demonstrated experience with Permit to Work (PTW), LOTO, and TRA procedures. • Familiarity with vapour treatment systems (VRU/RTO) and water management processes is a strong advantage. • In-depth knowledge of terminal operations and safety procedures. • Strong supervisory and mentor skills; able to guide and empower operators. • Proficient in Dutch and English (both written and spoken). • Computer literate; proficient in software commonly used in the terminal industry. • Ability to work accurately, follow procedures, and maintain high attention to detail. • Proactive and hands-on mentality. • Valid driver’s license. • Exposure to noise and outdoor weather conditions. • Potential for stressful situations due to the safety-critical nature of the role. • Requirement to work in a continuous-shift environment, including irregular hours. • Constant need for vigilance and sound decision-making under operational pressure. • Self-motivated with a high level of resilience. • Pragmatic and solution driven. • Strong team player with a collaborative mentality. • Reliable, structured, and safety conscious.
