About the Brand The goal of the Publishing Performance and Intelligence Group (PP&I) is to help deliver next generation digital publishing at Springer Nature and, as a result, grow the number of published articles, especially in Open Access (OA). Working closely with the Journals Group, Production, Technology, Marketing and Customer Services, we contribute to a wide variety of support work. This includes increasing the number of transfers of articles between journals, the commissioning of new collections and strengthening editor engagement, as well as supporting and enhancing the end-to-end publishing process

Springer Nature’s Research Integrity Group (RIG) supports all Springer Nature journals, books and databases in preventing and addressing concerns about research integrity and other breaches of publication ethics. We investigate research integrity cases and provide best-practice action plans to ensure that we maintain the integrity of the published record.
As Research Integrity Manager, you will be part of the growing Resolutions team in RIG. In this role you coach and support a team of research integrity advisers to investigate and resolve research integrity concerns in the published record, to ensure that cases are investigated and managed in line with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Role Responsibilities
• Line manage several (Associate, Senior) Research Integrity Advisers and Specialists • Support all Research Integrity Advisers in the management of their caseloads, providing support, training and guidance in difficult cases. • Ensure that all advice provided by the team of Research Integrity Advisers complies with editorial best practice as defined by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and Springer Nature policies. • Provide supervision, guidance and advice for Research Integrity Advisers and Specialists for cases that require input from the legal and communications departments. • Monitor the performance of the team, identify trends and gaps for continuous improvement • Responsibility for the professional and personal development of Research Integrity Advisers and Specialists, identifying development opportunities and necessary training. • Responsibility for the recruitment of new team members by selection of potential candidates and conducting job interviews, liaising with Human Resources. • Oversee the project management of individual and large cases that are being processed with the Research Integrity Support Team and ensure that cases are driven towards resolution following Standard Operating Procedures and meeting Key Performance Indicators. • Continuously review the cooperation between the Resolutions Team and the Research Integrity Support Team and liaise with the Head of Research Integrity Resolutions to propose and implement improvements. • Ensure up-to-date, user-friendly resources are available for in-house staff to assist them in self-resolving integrity issues. • Identity the need for new self-service resources and initiate the creation of these resources together with the Research Integrity Advisers and Specialists. • Work with all stakeholders (for example, senior management and the communications and legal teams) to resolve complicated integrity issues. • Carefully manage and resolve conflict situations between stakeholders on a research integrity cases. • Be an expert contributor for training materials on publication ethics for staff and external editors, and run training (in-person or via webinar) on publication ethics. • Initiate, project manage and contribute to other tasks and projects related to ensuring compliance with ethical policies/guidelines and improving workflows. • Represent SNRIG externally and promote its work, (e.g. writing blog posts, attending industry events and editorial board meetings, liaising with governmental organizations); • Contribute to the development of the team strategy and objectives together with the Head of Research Integrity, Resolutions. • Initiate, manage and contribute to projects in the Research Integrity Group that contribute to the team's objectives • Contribute research integrity expertise to the development of research integrity tools and implementation of these tools in the Resolutions team's workflow. • Contribute to other tasks and projects related to ensuring compliance with ethical policies/guidelines (e.g. policy and technology development, contributing to research projects, auditing journals). • Make recommendations for continuous improvement of workflows and tool to accelerate case resolution. • Contribute to the development of research integrity training materials for inhouse staff and externals editors. • Provide remote or onsite presentations and workshops on research integrity to inhouse editorial staff

Experience, Skills & Qualifications:
• Educated to at least a graduate level in an academic field • Knowledge/experience of the publishing industry, familiarity with the academic publication process • A good understanding of publication and research ethics concepts • Line management experience • Ability to manage a diverse and inclusive team of highly skilled experts in multiple locations • Ability to establish effective working relationships with senior and junior stakeholders both internally and externally • A high level of computer literacy, including Office applications and Google Workspace • Excellent organizational and time management skills • Analytical skills • Proactive approach to problem-solving in both daily tasks and more complex troubleshooting • Strong communication skills (written and oral) • Excellent English language skills • Dynamism; ability to work well under high pressure and to reprioritise 'on the fly'; willingness to take responsibility for difficult decisions • Ability to travel • Familiarity with plagiarism detection software (CrossCheck/iThenticate) and image integrity software (Proofig, ImageTwin) • Familiarity with copyright law • An understanding of libel and defamation concepts • Post-graduate research experience
