IDEXX is seeking a motivated Veterinary Laboratory Assistant to join our Patient Service Management (PSM) team in our Brisbane laboratory. This permanent part-time opportunity (approximately 3 days per week) is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys combining laboratory processes, administration, and problem-solving. Working onsite alongside a collaborative team, you’ll play a key role in managing incoming samples, ensuring accuracy, and supporting diagnostic workflows that make a meaningful difference in animal health
Why this role matters: You play a critical role in ensuring the smooth flow of samples and information through the laboratory, directly supporting accurate and timely diagnostic results. In this role:
• You receive and distribute incoming samples (local and interstate) to the laboratory efficiently and accurately
• You perform administrative checks, ensuring correct patient details and sample information
• You identify discrepancies and proactively contact clients for clarification or resubmissions when required
• You manage domestic and international sample send-outs and track their progress
• You enter results and support data accuracy prior to pathologist release
• You troubleshoot sample and workflow issues while supporting internal teams and customer queries
• You collaborate closely with laboratory departments, customer service teams, and external clients
• You contribute to a fast-paced environment by prioritising tasks and managing competing demands effectively
• You participate in process improvements and support new system implementations, including contributing ideas and feedback on innovations such as laboratory information system rollouts
What you need to succeed:
• You have completed or are working towards a Diploma in Laboratory Technology or similar (preferred but not essential)
• You bring strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise, multitask, and manage competing demands
• You thrive in fast-paced environments (experience in labs, hospitality, or high-volume admin roles is highly valued)
• You demonstrate excellent attention to detail and accuracy in your work
• You communicate clearly and effectively with both internal teams and external clients
• You are adaptable, action-oriented, and able to solve problems quickly
• You understand or are eager to learn laboratory workflows and quality standards (e.g. NATA, ISO)
• You are flexible to work a rotating roster, typically 9:00am–5:00pm across 3 days per week, including occasional Saturdays
• You enjoy collaborating within a positive, social, and team-focused environment
What you can expect from us:
• Meaningful work that directly impacts animal health and wellbeing
• A supportive, collaborative, and high-performing team with a positive and social culture
• Opportunities to contribute to new systems, innovation projects, and global initiatives
• Exposure to a fast-paced, dynamic laboratory environment that builds valuable skills
• Competitive compensation, annual bonus opportunities, and regular salary reviews
• Career development in a global organisation that promotes from within
• Wellbeing-focused benefits including wellness programs, fitness reimbursements, and volunteer days
