Purpose of the Job The New Technology & Materials Group is an expert science group with multidisciplinary background including chemistry, physics, and computer modeling. The group’s main purpose is to provide enabling sciences, consultancy services and product innovations to the regional business (development) teams. The group develops innovative product technologies and identifies potential step-out opportunities for the Polyurethanes business in the future.
Principal accountabilities
• Ensure full compliance with safety, health and environmental guidelines according to site and company standards in all areas of responsibility, including laboratory facilities and testing equipment. Promote safety behavior according to the above guidelines for the team and other people under the sphere of influence. • Maintain an advanced awareness of polymer chemistry and physics. The job holder is expected to enhance her/his area of research and technical expertise by maintaining an up-to-date knowledge of key scientific competitive developments in polyurethane development and manufacturing. • Provide consultancy to business development groups and business teams and advice in the resolution of relevant non-routine technical problems. • Act as the main researcher and project leader in several R&D programs, meeting project milestones and directing and reviewing supporting activities. • Keep abreast of relevant competitive IP literature to direct own research and to develop a strategically aligned intellectual property portfolio in the field of polyurethane and write appropriate invention reports.
• Job holder will provide formal supervision, coaching and training to permanent junior and temporary staff when appropriate to ensure effective performance management.

Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills are necessary to build internal and external networks. • Job holder will be responsible for proposing and writing reports, not only for internal use, but for eventual publication and/or presentation at relevant conferences. • Job holder must be a fluent communicator in English. Other languages are an asset. • Job holder must be prepared to travel globally and work across international boundaries.
Education and Experience
• Job holder must have an equivalent of a Doctorate (PhD) in Polymer science or other chemical-related fields. • A broad base of experience in polymer synthesis and characterization for polyurethane is necessary. • Job holder must be a skilled and experienced user of a variety of IT tools and techniques in order to ensure efficient design, analytical and communication processes.
