About this role

Freese and Nichols is seeking a Facilities Service Leader to lead one of the firm's fastest-growing national services. We welcome candidates from any of our office locations as we continue expanding our national presence. As Facilities Service Leader, you will shape the long-term business and technical strategy for the Facilities Service, strengthen Freese and Nichols' national market position, expand service capabilities, and elevate the firm's reputation through executive client engagement, industry leadership, technical excellence, and enterprise collaboration.

The Facilities Service delivers comprehensive facility lifecycle solutions for municipal, institutional, higher education, industrial, aviation, federal, and select private sector clients. The practice is organized around eight complementary Service Business Units (SBUs) that provide expertise in Architecture, MEP, Industrial Power, Instrumentation & Controls, Commissioning & Energy Services, Facilities Master Planning, Structural, and Bridge Services. This business model enables Freese and Nichols to deliver integrated, multidisciplinary solutions while creating scalable growth opportunities across the firm.

As a key driver of enterprise growth, the Facilities Service Leader will lead the continued evolution of the Facilities Service into a nationally recognized business built on scalable Service Business Units, enterprise collaboration, and technical excellence.

What You Will Do

• Develop and execute the long-term business strategy for the Facilities Service, aligning service growth with the firm's Strategic Plan and regional business objectives.

• Provide strategic leadership for the continued growth, maturity and performance of the Facilities Service Business Units by establishing business priorities, market strategies, and long-term value propositions.

• Translate market trends, client needs, competitive intelligence, and emerging technologies into growth strategies that strengthen Freese and Nichols' national Facilities presence.

• Establish the national technical vision for the Facilities Service by identifying future technical capabilities, emerging technologies, innovation priorities, and technical investments that support long-term business growth.

• Lead the national technical direction of the Facilities Service by partnering with Group Technical Leaders to strengthen technical excellence, identify capability gaps, develop standards and best practices, and build future technical expertise across all Service Business Units.

• Serve as a recognized leader in facilities planning, design, engineering, commissioning, and facility lifecycle solutions by representing the firm through thought leadership, industry organizations, conferences, publications, and executive client engagement.

• Build and sustain executive-level client relationships while identifying new business opportunities and expanding existing partnerships across multiple markets.

• Lead and support marketing, sales, and business development efforts by partnering with regional Operations, Business Development, and Client Service Leaders to advance strategic pursuits, strengthen market positioning, and expand the Facilities Service nationally.

• Partner with Operations to align business strategy, organizational structure, staffing, and resource planning to support sustainable growth across the service.

• Partner with Practice Leaders, Division Managers, Group and National Technical Leaders, Talent Acquisition, and Organizational Development to attract, recruit, develop, and retain top talent while building a future-ready pipeline of technical, business, and client leaders.

• Provide executive oversight of technical quality by supporting quality management initiatives, continuous improvement, lessons learned, and practice standards that strengthen the firm's technical reputation.

• Develop future leaders by strengthening Service Business Unit leadership, seller-doer development, technical leadership, project management capability, and succession planning across the service.

• Champion innovation, technical excellence, AI, and digital delivery to improve client outcomes and business performance.

• Foster a collaborative, high-performing service culture that emphasizes enterprise collaboration, technical excellence, continuous learning, leadership development, and knowledge sharing across regions, Service Business Units, and practices.

• Monitor business performance through revenue, bookings, backlog, market intelligence, and other key performance indicators, adjusting strategies as market conditions evolve.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction Management, or related field.

• 15+ years of progressive experience in facilities planning, design, engineering, architecture, construction, commissioning, program management, or related markets.

• Demonstrated success leading multidisciplinary teams, developing technical capabilities, and driving business growth across multiple regions.

• Proven experience in business development, executive client relationships, and strategic planning.

• Demonstrated ability to influence and collaborate across organizational boundaries to achieve enterprise objectives.

Preferred

• Registered Professional Engineer or Registered Architect.

• Experience leading a national practice, service, or business unit.

• Demonstrated experience developing technical organizations, technical standards, innovation programs, or national practice capabilities.

• Demonstrated national recognition through conference presentations, publications, industry committee leadership, or other professional contributions.

• Experience serving Higher Education, Municipal, Federal, Industrial, Aviation, Healthcare, or Institutional Facilities markets.
