Job Summary This position is responsible for coordinating and performing qualification testing on commercial and military grade rugged electronics. Environmental, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), power, and safety qualification are used to support product development and validation, marketing, sales, and manufacturing initiatives to prove design acceptability and obtain various compliance certifications.
Essential Functions
• Determine compliance by establishing compliance test standards; conducting and witnessing tests; performing diagnostic procedures; measuring performance; analyzing and evaluating findings; performing forensic analysis of failures; troubleshooting failures; supervising sub-contractors with the assistance of a Test Engineer
• Attain compliance by isolating and resolving non-compliance issues; recommending product and process changes; initiating engineering change notices
• Provide basic assistance in the preparation of compliance reports by collecting and summarizing measurement data and trends.
• Provide basic assistance with the Projects team for development of test strategies.
• Provide basic assistance in the creation of and Executes test plans.
• Provide basic assistance with engineers and designers through product characterization and testing.
• Provide basic assistance in product design, development, and production.
• Provide testing input during design and development phase.
• Inspect products and testing processes for flaws and identify areas of improvement.
• Provide basic assistance in the creation of prototypes for testing equipment.
• Build and set up equipment with assistance from a Test Engineer.
• Prepare and conduct experiments with assistance from a Test Engineer.
• Conduct tests and collect data with assistance from a Test Engineer.
• Calculate or records results during experiments.
• Provide oversight into external, 3rd party compliance testing.
• Coordinate witnesses for observed testing.
• Comply with safety, quality, and industry applicable standards.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Basic knowledge of computer hardware and systems integration
• Basic knowledge of computer testing software
• Basic knowledge of automation scripting
• Experience working in a fast-paced environment
• Basic knowledge of testing equipment and processes for electrical based assemblies
• Works well both independently and in a team environment and is willing to change priorities as needed
• Multitasking skills including the ability to work across multiple software platforms
• Use hand tools (Oscilloscope, multimeter, infrared thermal cameras, etc.)
• Write scripts for testing software automation
• Inspect and troubleshoot computer related components at an assembly level
• Read and compare technical data sheets
• Open and diagnose computer chassis after failed tests
• Travel to off-site to lab and have a flexible work schedule
• Perform industry standard test on computer equipment
Required Qualifications
• Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person”)
• Associate degree in engineering field or 2+ years of test or build experience in lieu of degree
• Current valid US driver’s license with good driving record
Preferred Qualifications
• Understanding of any current or past military testing standards (MIL STD-461, MIL STD-810, MIL STD-704, DO 160)
• Familiarity with automotive standards (CISPR 25, IEC 61850, IEC 61000-4-5, EN 61000-6)
• 1+ years of building electrical assemblies
• 1+ years of testing electrical assemblies
• 1+ years of environmental testing
Working Conditions Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
