Our people make all the difference in our success. The Manager Clinical Laboratory is responsible for the overall operations and quality of the site clinical laboratory or specified clinical area. This role is responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of accurate testing results, implementing quality improvement processes, and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards. The Manager Clinical Laboratory actively participates in financial management, oversees staff performance and training, and evaluates instrumentation and procedures to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the laboratory and deliver high-quality testing services to contribute to patient care and safety.
Essential Job Function:
• Educates and enforces policies related to handling, testing, investigation, and records for proficiency testing (PT) to ensure adherence to accrediting agencies' requirements. • Manages human resources and payroll functions of the lab, including staffing plans, performance evaluations, coaching/counseling, and payroll timekeeping to ensure policy compliance and efficient staffing. • Directs and monitors overall laboratory activities and staff to maintain quality, production, and accreditation standards through routine department rounds and oversight. • Performs quality control, maintenance procedures, and quality assurance activities to ensure effective operation of test systems within the lab, while actively seeking process improvements. • Participates in financial management, providing input for budgeting, evaluation, monitoring, and implementing corrective actions to achieve departmental and organizational financial goals. • Ensures compliance with regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, TJC, FDA, AABB) by maintaining knowledge of requirements and actively participating in accreditation surveys. • Provides guidance, assistance, and training to staff on procedures, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and annual competency for designated test systems to foster a skilled and competent workforce within the lab. • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education:
• Required: Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science.
Experience:
• Required: Four years of laboratory experience in a high complexity laboratory in designated specialty or subspecialty.
Licensure/Certification/Listing:
• Required: Must have Medical Technologist or Medical Laboratory Scientist from one of the following upon hire: ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) or AMT (American Medical Technologists).
