We're seeking an experienced Contingency Underwriter to join our team, working within authority limits on complex and high-value assignments. This role requires solid technical expertise, self-directed judgment, and strong relationship-building skills. As a key contributor to our business growth and profitability, you'll be responsible for underwriting business in line with our business plan, managing risks, and identifying new opportunities.Key Responsibilities
Underwriting & Risk Analysis
• Underwrite, manage, and service a renewal book, producing new business in accordance with business unit goals. • Develop and manage underwriting strategies for complex accounts and targets within your portfolio of accounts. • Exercise discretion and self-directed judgment in analyzing and evaluating risk, participating in roundtable discussions on risk assessment, and providing mentorship and leadership to peers. • Identify and drive new product development opportunities effectively.
Broker & Client Service
• Build and enhance relationships with brokers and clients, identifying and establishing new distribution relationships. • Cultivate key broker relationships to maintain a steady stream of business within our underwriting appetite.
Portfolio & Administrative Support
• Maintain awareness of claims activity, supporting and providing input on settlement of claims. • Assist with the development and periodic review of the portfolio written from all offices. Support the business planning and forecasting process, monitoring financial exposure and premium income within outlined limits and territories by class of business. Compliance
• Ensure all underwriting activities comply with company underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and internal policies. • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with company standards. Professional Development
• Participate in and/or provide training opportunities to expand technical underwriting knowledge. • Refine expertise in contingency products, policy forms, and underwriting best practices. • Progress toward increased underwriting authority through demonstrated technical proficiency and sound judgment.
Qualifications:
• 10-15 years of experience in underwriting or contingency insurance broking, with a focus on complex and high-value risks (experience may vary based on specific industry or company needs). • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience. • Strong technical expertise with the ability to analyze and evaluate risk. • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. • Experience using carrier rating systems, broker portals, or agency management systems is a plus.

• Excellent relationship-building skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong partnerships with brokers and clients.
• Strong business development skills, with the ability to identify and drive new opportunities. • Ability to work independently, exercising discretion and self-directed judgment. • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams. • Sports Interest: An interest in many sports would be beneficial, particularly in understanding Contractual Bonus and Prize Indemnity risks.
Target Locations
• NYC, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Indianapolis, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami / Ft Lauderdale area preferred.

Target Compensation: $200,000 - $250,000. Total compensation (base salary & any applicable bonus plan) for this role will depend on several factors including relevant experience, credentials, skills, geographical location, and knowledge pertaining to this role and industry.
