Primary Duties and Areas of Responsibility

New patient health checks ECG recording Phlebotomy Chaperoning duties Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/nurses Sterilising, cleansing and maintenance of surgical equipment Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring and recording Surgical equipment and vaccine re-stocking and stock rotation Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms Preparing and maintaining environments and equipment before, during and after patient care interventions, including assisting GPs during the performance of minor operations Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being Undertaking specific clinical activities for named patients that have been delegated and taught specifically in relation to that individual Helping to raise awareness of health and well-being and how it can be promoted Assisting with the collection and collation of data on needs related to health and well-being

Qualifications

Essential

Essential Criteria Level 3 Health Care qualification, or Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate (or equivalent) Previous experience working as a Healthcare Assistant or in a patient-facing healthcare role Good communication and interpersonal skills; able to interact professionally with patients, families, and the healthcare team Caring and compassionate approach, with a genuine interest in patient wellbeing Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately Basic clinical skills, including: Blood pressure monitoring Height and weight measurement Assisting with basic clinical procedures Ability to follow instructions and standard operating procedures accurately Strong organisational skills and effective time management IT literacy and ability to learn clinical systems (e.g. S1 or similar) Understanding of infection control, health and safety, and hygiene standards Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Flexible and adaptable to meet the needs of the service Willingness to undertake mandatory training and ongoing professional development Good level of spoken and written English Right to work in the UK Desirable

Desirable Criteria Previous experience working in a general practice or primary care setting Phlebotomy training and recent experience in taking bloods Experience performing: ECGs Urinalysis Wound care NHS Health Checks Knowledge of and experience using S1 or other clinical systems NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care (or equivalent healthcare qualification) Training in infection prevention and control Experience supporting: Smoking cessation Weight management Other health promotion initiatives Understanding of long-term condition monitoring, such as diabetes or hypertension Experience assisting with immunisation clinics (e.g. flu or COVID) Up-to-date Basic Life Support (BLS) and manual handling training Awareness of CQC standards, clinical governance, and safeguarding procedures Ability to adapt to a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment Confidence in working autonomously as well as collaboratively Commitment to ongoing professional development and training

The candidate should hold a Level 3 Health Care qualification or Level 2 Adult Social Care Certificate qualification and have a proven track record of working in General Practice as a Health Care Assistant.

Experience Essential

We are looking for an experienced General Practice HCA. Ideally with S1 and QOF experience. Working under the direct supervision of the senior practice nurse and strictly in accordance with specific practice guidelines and protocols, the healthcare assistant will assist the practice clinical team in the provision and delivery of patient care.
