Would you like to work as a receptionist at Wembley Park Medical Centre because I enjoy helping people and being part of a team that makes a difference in the community. A GP receptionist is often the first person patients speak to, so I would like to use my communication skills, patience and organisation skills to provide a friendly and professional service
Main duties of the job
Patient-facing duties
Greeting patients and visitors, both in person and by phone Booking, amending, and cancelling appointments (routine, urgent, telephone consultations) Registering new patients and updating patient records/demographic details Signposting patients to the right service (GP, nurse, pharmacist, other NHS services) based on need Handling repeat prescription requests and liaising with pharmaciesAnswering and directing incoming calls, often high-volumeTaking messages for GPs and clinical staff and passing them on appropriately Chaperoning duties (in some practices, if trained) Handling deaths, safeguarding alerts, and other sensitive notifications with appropriate discretion Maintaining confidentiality in line with data protection and Caldicott principles Supporting practice with CQC-related admin (e.g. keeping logs, signage, records accessible for inspection like the CCTV checklist we worked on)

Answering and directing incoming calls, often high-volume Processing incoming post, emails, and online consultation requests Scanning, filing, and updating records on the clinical system (e.g. EMIS, SystmOne) Managing referral letters and hospital correspondence Processing test results messages/tasks as instructed by clinicians Managing the appointment book/diary, including clinic templates Practice support
Taking messages for GPs and clinical staff and passing them on appropriately Chaperoning duties (in some practices, if trained) Handling deaths, safeguarding alerts, and other sensitive notifications with appropriate discretion Maintaining confidentiality in line with data protection and Caldicott principles Supporting practice with CQC-related admin (e.g. keeping logs, signage, records accessible for inspection like the CCTV checklist we worked on) Facilities/operational
Opening/closing the practice, including alarm and CCTV systems Ensuring the reception and waiting areas are tidy and safe Managing queries about services, opening hours, and practice policies Basic stock/supplies ordering for reception area Key skills often expected
Good telephone manner and communication skills Ability to stay calm under pressure (reception can be high-stress, especially mornings) IT literacy for clinical systems and Microsoft Office Discretion and understanding of confidentiality (GDPR, Caldicott) Basic understanding of NHS structure and local referral pathways
