Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant to support financial operations related to product costing and inventory management.
This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate cost data, supporting inventory reconciliation, resolving invoice discrepancies, and producing reporting that supports financial and operational decision-making. The position works cross-functionally with Finance and Supply Chain teams to ensure accurate cost reporting and to identify opportunities for cost optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Cost of Goods & Landed Cost Management
Calculate and maintain accurate landed cost of goods (COG) for finished products, components, and raw materials. Maintain and refine the cost accounting system to ensure accurate costing across product lines. Ensure accuracy in Bills of Materials (BOMs) to calculate landed costs including freight, duties, and related expenses.
Inventory Reconciliation
Reconcile physical inventory and cycle counts against the general ledger. Ensure alignment between inventory records and the balance sheet on a monthly, annual, and ad hoc basis.
Invoice Discrepancy Resolution
Investigate and resolve vendor invoice discrepancies in partnership with Accounts Payable and Supply Chain teams. Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to resolve cost or billing discrepancies.
Financial & Operational Reporting
Partner with Supply Chain to analyze inventory balances, waste, and scrap. Investigate differences between purchase receipts and vendor invoices. Support inventory purchase cash flow projections. Produce ad hoc reports for Finance, Supply Chain, and leadership. Provide reporting on spend by vendor and product category.
Cost Database Management
Build and maintain cost databases to ensure current and accurate cost information across financial reporting systems.
Cost Optimization & Analysis
Analyze cost drivers across products, manufacturing processes, and supply partners. Evaluate the cost impact of changes in product design, materials, manufacturing processes, or services. Identify and propose cost-saving opportunities in collaboration with Supply Chain leadership.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. 2–4 years of experience in cost accounting. Experience in manufacturing, consumer goods, or supply chain environments preferred. Strong understanding of inventory accounting, standard costing, and cost analysis. Advanced Excel skills, including working with large datasets and pivot tables. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Highly detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
