The Parliamentary Publications branch of the Legislative Assembly Service (LAS) produces verbatim records and indexes of debates held in the Legislative Assembly and its committees. These official records, known as Hansard, are published in English, as well as French when spoken. Operating in a deadline-driven environment, the branch ensures parliamentary proceedings are published promptly following each meeting. Reporting to the Hansard Manager, the Senior Editor is responsible for conducting the final detailed review and editing of Hansard publications to ensure accuracy, consistency, readability, and compliance with established editorial standards. The position provides editorial leadership by supervising, coaching, and evaluating editors and proofreaders; supporting recruitment, training, and performance management; and serving as the branch's subject matter expert on editing, research, and language matters. The Senior Editor also develops training programs and learning resources, assesses prospective editors, monitors editorial quality, recommends improvements to editorial standards, processes, and technology, and provides analysis and advice to the Hansard Manager on editing issues, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.The position requires advanced knowledge of editing principles, writing mechanics, research methodologies, Hansard editing standards, parliamentary procedures, and Saskatchewan's political, historical, and governmental environment. Knowledge is typically acquired through a relevant undergraduate degree, such as English, French, linguistics, history, communications, or education, combined with experience in writing, editing, copy editing, or publishing. All employees of the Legislative Assembly Service are required to provide impartial, non-partisan, and confidential service to all Members of the Legislative Assembly.
