Position: Project Accountant (Construction)OverviewHanson Group of Companies is seeking a detail-oriented and operationally minded Project Accountant to support our growing construction operations. This role bridges accounting and project execution-ensuring accurate financial tracking of jobs while staying closely connected to what's happening in the field. This is not a traditional bookkeeping role. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of project accounting, WIP (Work in Progress), cost tracking, and contract administration, and will play a key role in aligning project activity with company financials.Key ResponsibilitiesProject Accounting & WIPMaintain accurate WIP schedules and support monthly reportingTrack project costs vs. budgets and identify variancesEnsure proper revenue and cost recognition aligned with project progressWork closely with project managers to understand job status and financial implicationsInvoicing according to the terms of the projectBudgeting & Cost ControlMonitor job budgets vs. actual costs (labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors)Flag cost overruns or risks earlyAssist in building and maintaining project cost structures and job setupsSupport forecasting of project outcomesPayroll & Cost AllocationsAllocate payroll costs to jobs/projects accuratelyTrack and allocate equipment usage costsAllocate and reconcile subcontractor costsEnsure all costs are captured in the correct job and categoryContract Administration (Hybrid Component)Support tracking of contracts, change orders, and billing milestonesWork with operations to ensure billing is aligned with contract termsTrack committed costs vs. actualsMaintain organized documentation related to project financialsFinancial Integration & ReportingEnsure project-level data ties accurately into the general ledgerSupport month-end close with project-based insightsAssist in producing project profitability and margin analysisHelp improve reporting processes and job costing accuracyWhat We're Looking ForTechnical Skills2-5+ years experience in construction accounting or project accountingStrong understanding of:Work in Progress (WIP)Job costingBudget vs. actual trackingCost allocations (labour, equipment, subs)Experience with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar)
