About this role

The Nickel District Conservation Authority (o/a Conservation Sudbury) is one of Ontario?s 36 locally based watershed management agencies. The jurisdiction includes the watersheds of the Wanapitei, Vermilion, and Whitefish Rivers. Flood management, development review and related watershed services are provided primarily within Greater Sudbury, in a total area of approximately 9150 square kilometres.

Reporting to the Director of the Natural Hazards Program, the Water Resources Scientist is responsible for the development, maintenance and ongoing updates of natural hazard mapping. The position will also provide technical support for the implementation of Natural Hazards programs that contribute to keeping people and property safe. The work will focus on the development of hydrologic and hydraulic studies and the associated flood hazard mapping products. In addition to the in-house completion of these studies, the role is also expected to include coordination of external partners / contractors / consultants for related project elements including, but not limited to, field surveys, stream flow or meteorological data collection, or complex hydrologic and hydraulic modeling.

The Water Resources Scientist will also provide technical support to flood forecasting and warning and dam operations, and from time to time to other program areas including development review, water control structure safety and maintenance, low water response, and drinking water source protection.

Pay: $52.98-$59.05 per hour
