The City of New Westminster has an exciting temporary one year opportunity for a self-starting, dynamic and progressive Transportation Engineer to advance our sustainable transportation and neighbourhood livability ambitions. With a focus on making it safer, more comfortable and more convenient for people of all ages and abilities to walk, wheel, ride a bike and take transit in New Westminster, this is a leadership position within the Transportation Division. You will be required to take on tasks in support of and occasionally act for the Division Manager. If this opportunity resonates with you, we would love to hear from you.Key functions of the position: Leading the planning, analysis, design, and implementation of sustainable and accessible transportation infrastructure projects, including: sidewalk and pedestrian crossing improvements; intersection safety improvements that prioritize walking, cycling and transit; transit priority measures; micromobility facilities including protected lanes, multi-use paths, and shared facilities; and traffic calming measures. Developing, reviewing and authenticating conceptual geometric designs for new transportation facilities and improvements to existing infrastructure, including providing leadership and supervision of junior staff and consultants. Leading analysis, implementation, and management of curbside management initiatives, including flexible curbside uses, the residential parking permit program, and on-street pay parking. Leading project teams to ensure delivery of projects on time and within budget, including developing and following an appropriate project management plan. Participating in the annual capital and operating budget processes, and preparing applications and status updates for third-party funding. Applying technical expertise to the development, critique and customization of specifications, guidelines, standards and current best practices to ensure excellence in infrastructure design and delivery, particularly for universal accessibility, micromobility and transit priority improvements. Preparing reports and presentations to civic committees and City Council, responding to questions, and actively receiving and proactively addressing feedback, and representing the City and its interests on regional committees and working groups. Establishing scope of work and preparing documentation for procurement of professional consulting services for complex projects, critically evaluating proposal submissions, and managing and overseeing consultants. Collaborating and engaging in a strategic, proactive and constructive way within the Engineering Department and with other City staff, consultants, strategic partners, external agencies, the public and other community interests regarding transportation issues.
