We are looking for an enthusiastic Newly Qualified Nurse to join our busy and friendly team at The Adam Practice, as a foundation General Practice Nurse. The candidate will need to have a professional, caring, and courteous manner and excellent communication skills. You will have a passion to develop a career in primary care and have a person centred approach to nursing care.
The General Practice Nursing role provides a wide variety of opportunities to develop interests in Chronic Disease management, Child health, lower limb care, public health, or primary care Research. The successful applicant will be an integral member of our fantastic Adam Practice Nursing team who undertake the wide range of General Practice Nursing care across the practice. As a training practice, we can provide full training and mentorship to support an individuals personal development.
The Adam Practice has been instrumental in developing a highly successful Leg Club for our patients. The Best Foot Forward Leg Club was the first in Dorset and along with a great team of local volunteers has won several national awards due to its excellent patient outcomes and providing evidence based effective clinical care. The successful candidate will be required to work with other colleagues as part of the clinical team at the Leg Club and engage with its members in this unique community environment.
This is a part time, permanent role of up to 32hr per week. Working a Thursday & Friday will be required.
Main duties of the job
To work as a General Practice Nurse to provide holistic, patient centred nursing care to the local practice population in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and in agreement with the nurse management team.
To expertly provide holistic assessment of wounds and implement wound care in line with current evidence based guidelines. Inclusive of the treatment of minor traumatic, post op wounds and lower limb care, following dedicated training and working within own level of competency.
To undertake a wide variety of General Practice nursing clinical skills including removal of sutures and clips, investigatory procedures such as cervical cytology, ECG, and Dopplers, following any required training and in line with local guidelines
Delivery of national childhood and adult immunisation programmes, ensuring patients are fully informed and vaccines injections are administrated safely under patient group directives or individual prescription.
To have a proactive approach to healthcare of the individual and/or their family by delivery of opportunistic health promotion. Where appropriate, providing general education, advice on national screening programmes and guide, refer patients to appropriate services or other health professionals as deemed appropriate

To provide routine nursing care to patients in accordance with clinical based evidence, NICE and in agreement with the nurse management team.
To provide holistic assessment of wounds and implement wound care in line with current evidence-based guidelines. Inclusive of the treatment of minor traumatic wounds and lower limb care, following dedicated training and working within own level of competency
To undertake post op wound care, including removal of sutures and clips. Provision of health care advice to provide optimum healing post operatively.
To undertake the collection of pathological & microbiology specimens including venepuncture, swabs, urine culture in line with local guidelines
Perform a holistic assessment of patients attending for relevant investigatory procedures such as cervical cytology, ECG, and Dopplers following training and in line with local guidelines.
Delivery of national childhood and adult immunisation programmes, ensuring vaccines, injections are administrated safely under patient group directives or individual prescription.
Deliver opportunistic health promotion, where appropriate, by providing general education, advice on national screening programmes and guide/refer patients to appropriate services or other health professionals as deemed appropriate.
Identify, manage, and support patients at risk of developing long-term conditions, preventing adverse effects on the patients health
To be able to provide appropriate self care advice for patients presenting with minor illness within own level of competency and referring to GP, ANP, Pharmacist where appropriate.
Offer a holistic approach to travel health by providing comprehensive advice to patients prior to travel including relevant vaccination within own level of competency.
Provide contraception advice and sexual health guidance. Undertaking annual contraceptive reviews and injections in line with practice policies.
Chaperone and assist patients where appropriate who are being examined by another clinician.
Delegate clinical responsibilities appropriately to non-registered colleagues (ensuring safe practice and the task is within the scope of practice of the individual) and support clinical supervision of colleagues.
To maintain effective infection control measures in line with local guidelines and practice policy.
To be able to recognise and manage anaphylaxis, according to the current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
To be able to perform Cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and the correct use of Automated Defibrillator following training, according to the current UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
Ensure safe storage, rotation and disposal of vaccines and medication. Assist in the completion of monthly stock take and support the cost effective use of disposable items.
Maintain adequate stock within the treatment room and assist with the restocking of other clinical rooms as required.

Qualifications Essential
Registered (first level) nurse
Desirable
Post grad diploma or degree relating to primary care.
Experience Essential
Current Registration with NMC.

Knowledge of the wider spectrum of clinical care delivered in General Practice Nurse clinics. Excellent communication and people skills.
