Join one of the UK's leading specialist cancer centres as a Band 5 Staff Nurse within our outstanding Chemotherapy Day Unit. We're looking for a SACT-trained Registered Nurse with chemotherapy administration experience who is passionate about delivering exceptional patient-centred care.
At The Christie Private Care, rated Outstanding by the CQC, you'll work within a highly skilled multidisciplinary team providing specialist cancer treatments in a modern, purpose-built environment. As part of our day-case service, you'll play a vital role in assessing, planning, delivering and evaluating care for patients undergoing systemic anti-cancer treatments.
You'll be responsible for the safe administration of chemotherapy, undertaking pre-treatment assessments, monitoring patients throughout their treatment, managing side effects and providing expert support and reassurance to patients and their families. Working collaboratively with colleagues across the service, you'll help ensure every patient receives the highest standard of personalised care throughout their cancer journey.

Main duties of the job
As a Staff Nurse within the Chemotherapy Day Unit at The Christie Private Care, you will play a key role in delivering safe, high-quality cancer care to patients receiving systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT). Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised patient care throughout their treatment journey.
You will use your SACT competency and chemotherapy administration experience to safely deliver treatments in line with clinical protocols, undertaking pre-treatment assessments, monitoring patients during therapy, and managing treatment-related side effects and complications. You will also provide expert advice, education and emotional support to patients and their families, helping to ensure a positive and reassuring treatment experience.
This role requires excellent clinical judgement, strong communication skills and a compassionate, patient-centred approach. Working within a specialist day-case environment, you will collaborate closely with consultants, pharmacists and allied healthcare professionals to deliver outstanding clinical outcomes while maintaining the highest standards of safety, governance and documentation.

The Staff Nurse is responsible for the assessment of care needs of patients, planning programmes of care, implementation and evaluation of these programmes without direct supervision.
Once competent they may take charge of the ward/department and supervise more junior colleagues and may take on an additional responsibility, such as a link nurse role
They will be working independently/autonomously and at times without direct supervision and are accountable for their own actions.
They ensure the safety and wellbeing of patients and always work in a manner that promotes dignity and respect through the adoption of person-centred care principles.
They demonstrate commitment to quality patient care and team working.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
Clinical:
Responsible for carrying out clinical practice within designated clinical areas, ensuring that high quality, current evidence-based nursing assessment, care planning, implementation, interventions and evaluations for patients is provided from admission through to discharge.
Responsible for the application of knowledge across the range of work procedures and practices, underpinned by theoretical knowledge and practical experience.
To act as advocate for patients within the department, to ensure a patient orientated approach to the delivery of care.
To ensure that patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
Recognise and avoid situations that may be detrimental to the health and wellbeing of the individuals.
Will advise on the promotion of health and the prevention of illness.
Recognise the significance of observations made, and use them to develop and initiate nursing assessments and devise a plan of care.
Carry out those activities necessary to conduct a comprehensive assessment of a persons nursing requirements.
Will ensure that all patients will have a discharge plan that is safe and appropriate for their needs.
Carry out nursing procedures and treatments, checking on and maintaining the highest possible standards.
Work alongside the multi-disciplinary team to ascertain treatments and advise on nursing priorities.
Take a clear and concise history from patients by assessing their health and well-being and complete documentation ensuring that all entries are accurate and legible and that all information systems are maintained.
Undertake prescribed physical observations as follows: blood pressure, temperature, respirations, blood sugars, urinalysis, weight and height, and report exceptions appropriates.
Responsible for the correct administration of prescribed medication including transfusion of blood and blood products.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Registered Nurse (Adult) with current NMC registration. Recognised nursing degree, diploma or equivalent qualification. SACT (Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy) competency and accreditation. Competent in the administration of chemotherapy and related systemic anti-cancer treatments
