Job summary
Bigham Road Medical Centre is looking to recruit a friendly, organised and professional Medical Receptionist to join our welcoming and supportive practice team.
As the first point of contact for our patients, you will play a vital role in creating a positive experience by providing a high standard of customer service and ensuring the smooth running of our busy reception. You will be responsible for managing appointments, handling patient enquiries, processing administrative tasks and supporting our clinical team to deliver safe, effective patient care.
This is a 30-hour per week position, worked on a rota basis between 7:45am and 6:30pm, Monday to Friday, so flexibility is essential.
Whether you already have experience working in general practice or have strong customer service and administrative skills from another sector, we would love to hear from you. Full training will be provided for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job Main Responsibilities
Receive patients and visitors in a courteous and professional manner.Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and deal with enquiries appropriately.Book, amend and cancel appointments in accordance with practice procedures.Register new patients and maintain accurate patient records.Process repeat prescription requests.Scan, file and distribute clinical correspondence.Handle confidential patient information in accordance with GDPR and practice policies.Take payments where applicable and issue receipts.Maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming reception area.Work collaboratively with all members of the practice team.Undertake any other reasonable administrative duties as required by the Practice Manager.

Job SummaryThe Medical Receptionist is the first point of contact for patients and visitors attending Bigham Road Medical Centre. The post holder will provide a professional, friendly and efficient reception and administrative service, ensuring patients receive a high standard of customer care while supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the practice.
The successful candidate will work as part of a small, supportive team and will be expected to maintain confidentiality, communicate effectively and work flexibly to meet the needs of the practice.
Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesWelcome patients and visitors in a courteous, professional and friendly manner.Answer incoming telephone calls promptly and deal with enquiries appropriately.Book, amend and cancel patient appointments using the clinical system.Register new patients and update patient records accurately.Process repeat prescription requests in accordance with practice procedures.Scan, file and distribute incoming correspondence and clinical documents.Receive, record and distribute incoming mail.Signpost patients to the appropriate clinician or service where appropriate.Take messages accurately and ensure they are passed to the relevant member of staff.Handle confidential patient information in accordance with GDPR, NHS guidance and practice policies.Maintain a clean, tidy and welcoming reception area.Support clinicians and colleagues with administrative tasks as required.Participate in team meetings and mandatory training.Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role, as requested by the Practice Manager.CommunicationThe post holder will:
