Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Salaried GP to join our friendly and supportive team at Concept House and Sefton Road Surgery.
As a well-established practice serving approximately 6,200 patients across two sites, we are committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. We offer a welcoming, collaborative working environment where staff wellbeing, teamwork and professional development are genuinely valued.
The substantive practice role is offered at 4 sessions per week, comprising one on-call day and one regular clinical day on Tuesday and Friday. These days are fixed to ensure continuity of patient care and will include routine clinical sessions alongside on-call responsibilities, in line with the agreed job plan.
There is also an optional opportunity to undertake up to 4 additional sessions per week through our Extended Access Service. Evening (until 8:00pm) and weekend sessions are available, with days discussed and agreed with the successful candidate, subject to service requirements and availability.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for providing high-quality, patient-centred clinical care to the practice population. Core responsibilities will include:
Providing clinical assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and referral in line with evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines.
Delivering the full range of General Medical Services (GMS), including management of long-term conditions, medication reviews, preventative care, and health promotion.
Participating in the duty/on-call rota as required.
Maintaining accurate and contemporaneous patient records in accordance with GMC standards and practice policies.
Working collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to a supportive, effective, and safe working environment.
Engaging in clinical governance activities, including audit, significant event analysis, and service improvement initiatives.
Supporting education and training within the practice, including the supervision and development of trainees and students where appropriate.
Attending and contributing to practice meetings, ensuring effective communication and engagement in practice priorities and planning.

Concept House and Sefton Road Surgery is a progressive, two-site practice serving approximately 6,200 patients. We have a stable, experienced multidisciplinary team comprising Salaried GPs, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Practice Nurses, a trainee Practice Nurse, Healthcare Assistant and a dedicated administrative and management team.

Clinical Responsibilities
Provide high-quality, patient-centred medical services to individuals registered with the practice.
Deliver the full range of General Medical Services (GMS) in accordance with the practice contract, including Quality and Outcomes Framework (QOF) requirements.
Offer appropriate care to patients of all ages and clinical needs.
Assess, diagnose, investigate, treat, and refer patients as required, ensuring timely and safe clinical decision-making.
Participate in on-call duties and other scheduled clinical sessions as required.
Support and promote end-of-life care frameworks (e.g., Gold Standards Framework) to ensure high-quality palliative care.
Manage long-term conditions in line with national guidelines, pathways, and best practice.
Prescribe medications appropriately, using generic prescribing where suitable, and provide evidence-based rationale when alternatives are required.
Provide health promotion, prevention advice, and lifestyle counselling to support patient wellbeing.
Non-Clinical Responsibilities
Complete administrative and operational tasks required to fulfil GMS contract obligations, including referrals and documentation.
Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records in accordance with professional standards, using appropriate coding systems (e.g., READ, SNOMED).
Work collaboratively with IT teams and data analysts to generate performance and service-monitoring reports.
Liaise with external agencies, services, and community organisations to support patient care pathways and raise awareness of available services.
Work with colleagues to support demand management and improve service efficiency.
Support GP leads and management in delivering service improvement plans, including Practice-Based Commissioning (PBC) developments.
Promote the use of key NHS initiatives (e.g., Choose and Book, cancer pathways, 18-week referral targets).
Encourage and support patient participation in service improvement and feedback processes.
Comply with all relevant NHS policies, including safeguarding, HR processes, and clinical governance.
Participate actively in practice meetings and wider team forums to support communication, service development, and quality improvement.
Training and Education
Provide health education and self-management advice to patients and carers.
Participate in the annual appraisal process.
Undertake mandatory and developmental training to maintain clinical competencies and support service needs.
Contribute to practice development projects as agreed with the management team.
Maintain up-to-date Continuing Professional Development (CPD) records.
Share learning with colleagues through teaching, case discussions, significant event analysis, and clinical review meetings.
Clinical Governance, Research and Audit
Participate in clinical audits to monitor quality and identify opportunities for improvement.
Engage in research, audit activity, and evidence-based practice where appropriate.
Assist in the development and implementation of practice policies, protocols, and clinical guidelines.
Ensure services are informed by current evidence and aligned with the clinical needs of the practice population.
Communication
Maintain excellent communication with patients and carers to ensure informed decision-making and continuity of care.
Promote effective communication within the multidisciplinary team to support good clinical and operational practice.
Build and maintain constructive relationships with secondary care services, external partners, and community providers.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
Person Specification Essential Medical degree and MRCGP (or equivalent recognized by the Royal College of General Practitioners). GMC registration and inclusion on the GP Register and Performers List. Legal right to work in the UK. Valid immunisation status, including Hepatitis B. Current experience in general practice with up-to-date appraisal/revalidation. Competence in childhood surveillance and womens health. Minimum six months experience in A&E, general medicine, and surgery. Ability to engage effectively with patients and colleagues, including those with complex needs. Experience working with diverse populations, including socially deprived communities and patients with long-term conditions, mental health needs, or HIV. Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle.
Desirable
Desirable Experience developing services within a changing healthcare environment. Understanding of private general practice and integration with NHS systems. Knowledge of CQC Fundamental Standards. Awareness of contracting, service performance monitoring, and delivery frameworks.
