We have an opportunity for a Specialist Nurse: Cancer Services to join their team of staff in the Oncology department.
This is a full-time role for 37.5 hours a week. The role holder will be required to cover a flexible shift pattern.
Main duties of the job
Duties of this role include:
Deliver expert nursing care to patients with cancer across outpatient, inpatient, day-case and ambulatory settings. Undertake specialist assessments, contributing to holistic care planning, symptom management and ongoing review. Act as a clinical expert in cancer pathways, supporting diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and survivorship care. Provide specialist advice to patients and families, supporting informed decision-making and self-management. Support the safe delivery of systemic anti-cancer treatments (where appropriately trained), radiotherapy pathways, or disease-specific services. Provide emotional, psychological and practical support to patients and carers throughout the cancer journey. Act as a key point of contact for patients, improving continuity of care and coordination across services. Work closely with Consultants, MDT members, allied health professionals and support services to deliver coordinated care. Ensure practice is compliant with national guidance, professional standards and Circle Health Group policies.

Specialist Clinical Practice Deliver expert nursing care to patients with cancer across outpatient, inpatient, day-case and ambulatory settings. Undertake specialist assessments, contributing to holistic care planning, symptom management and ongoing review. Act as a clinical expert in cancer pathways, supporting diagnosis, treatment, follow-up and survivorship care. Provide specialist advice to patients and families, supporting informed decision-making and self-management. Support the safe delivery of systemic anti-cancer treatments (where appropriately trained), radiotherapy pathways, or disease-specific services.
Patient Experience & Support Provide emotional, psychological and practical support to patients and carers throughout the cancer journey. Act as a key point of contact for patients, improving continuity of care and coordination across services. Support patients in managing treatment side effects and complications, escalating concerns appropriately. Promote dignity, respect and compassion in all interactions.
Multidisciplinary Working Work closely with Consultants, MDT members, allied health professionals and support services to deliver coordinated care. Contribute specialist nursing input to MDT discussions, pathway development and treatment planning. Liaise with internal and external services (including NHS partners where applicable) to ensure seamless patient care.
Clinical Governance & Quality Ensure practice is compliant with national guidance, professional standards and Circle Health Group policies. Participate in audit, service evaluation and quality improvement initiatives within Cancer Services. Support incident reporting, learning and risk management processes. Maintain accurate, timely and high-quality clinical documentation.
Education, Leadership & Development Act as a clinical role model and support the development of junior nursing staff. Contribute to education, training and competency development within Cancer Services. Keep up to date with advances in oncology practice, maintaining professional knowledge and skills. Participate in mandatory and role-specific training, maintaining 100% compliance.
Safety, Compliance & Professional Practice Demonstrate awareness of safeguarding responsibilities for children and vulnerable adults. Ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation and infection prevention standards. Uphold patient confidentiality and information governance at all times.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
WHAT DO YOU HAVE? Essential Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration. Significant post-registration experience in Oncology and/or Haematology nursing. Evidence of specialist knowledge in cancer care pathways and symptom management. Strong understanding of clinical governance, patient safety and quality frameworks. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. Ability to work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous professional development.Desirable Postgraduate qualification in Cancer Nursing (e.g. Level 6/7). Experience working as a Specialist Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS), or equivalent. Level 7 SACT qualification or experience supporting systemic anti-cancer therapy services. Experience in private healthcare or acute hospital oncology services. Experience contributing to service development, audit or research activities. WHAT SORT OF PERSON ARE YOU?
