Job summary

Chapelfields Medical Centre is seeking an experienced and proactive Business Manager to join our leadership team on a part-time basis. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic thinker to play a key role in shaping the future direction, sustainability, and growth of our practice.

Working closely with the Practice Operations Manager, Partners, and wider team, the post-holder will support the development and delivery of business strategies, service improvements, and operational efficiencies to enhance patient care and organisational performance.

Strategic Leadership

Lead on the development and implementation of the strategic business plan

Identify opportunities for service development, partnership working and innovation

Advise the Partners on strategic opportunities, risks and organisational development

Lead major projects, business cases and service redesign initiatives

Analyse performance data, contracts, and financial reports to inform decision-making

Support bid writing, project management, and service redesign initiatives

Monitor and evaluate KPIs, ensuring alignment with NHS objectives and local commissioning priorities

Build effective relationships with NHS stakeholders and external organisations

Oversee governance processes, risk management, and compliance requirements

Contribute to workforce planning and organisational development

Represent the Practice at external meetings and forums

Finance and Contracts

Lead the financial strategy of the Practice

Manage accounts, prepare and monitor budgets, forecasts and cash flow projections

Monitor Practice income, expenditure and financial performance

Maximise income through contractual opportunities and service development

Reduce inefficiencies and implement systems and processes to ensure cost effectiveness

Ensure achievement of contractual requirements and targets

Manage relationships with accountants, commissioners and financial advisors

Report financial performance and business risks to the Partners

Human Resources and Organisational Development

Lead workforce planning and organisational development

Ensure compliance with employment legislation and HR best practice

Manage formal disciplinary, grievance, capability and dismissal procedures

Lead organisational change and restructuring processes

Support succession planning and leadership development

Overall line management of supervisory staff and the patient services team

Governance and Risk

Maintain oversight of regulatory compliance and organisational governance

Lead risk management and business continuity planning

Ensure compliance with NHS contractual and regulatory requirements

Provide assurance reports to the Partners

Premises and Estates

Lead premises strategy and development

Manage lease negotiations and major estates projects

Oversee long-term premises planning and capital investment

Leadership Responsibilities

Provide leadership and support to the Operations Manager

Work collaboratively with the Partners to achieve strategic objectives

Ensure the Practice remains financially sustainable, compliant and forward-thinking

Person Specification

Additional requirements Essential

Flexibility to work outside of core office hours Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle

Desirable

Clinical system and primary care programme user skills - SystemOne, Ardens, e-consult etc.

Experience Essential

Experience of: Working in a healthcare setting Managing large multidisciplinary teams Performance management including conducting appraisals, staff development and disciplinary procedures Developing and implementing projects Workforce analysis, planning, deployment and forecasting Accounting systems and procedures including budget and cash flow forecasting

Desirable

Working in primary care and GP Practice

Qualifications Essential

Educated to degree level in healthcare or business Good standard of education with excellent literacy and numeracy skills Leadership and/or management qualification
