Job description Job responsibilities

The GP will undertake a variety of duties governed by the GMS contract and objectives of Enhanced services. including

In person consultations

Telephone consultations

Visiting patients at home and in nursing homes

Checking and signing repeat prescriptions

Dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence as required

Clinical administration

Working closely with our PCN and practice teams

Wider Responsibilities

Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self-referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation

Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness

Cover all the clinical management of the patients in surgery as appropriate including initiating investigations, reviewing results, making referrals to secondary care or to other providers as appropriate

Develop care and treatment plans in consultation with patients and in line with current Practice disease management protocols as well wider guidance such as that from NICE

Ensure appropriate follow up of patients

Record clear and contemporaneous computerised consultation notes to agreed standards

Participate in clinical audits, and learning event analyses and practice meetings

Compile and issue computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions avoiding hand-written prescriptions.

Prescribe generically whenever appropriately and in accordance with the Practice prescribing formulary, NICE guidance and Good Prescribing Practice (as defined by British National Formulary guidance)

Work with and provide support for other members of the primary health care team

Play a lead role in the practice achieving agreed and other key performance indicator targets

Quality

Manage personal time and workload effectively and efficiently

Meet deadlines and other performance benchmarks and reporting for the PCN

Use significant event analysis to alert staff to areas of potential risk

Education, Training and Development

To undertake all relevant training

Engage with and participate fully in all mandatory training and development

Take personal ownership of the responsibility to keep up to date with latest guidelines

Undertake additional training and development to close potential gaps in skills and knowledge

Governance and Risk

Ensure the confidentiality and security of all information that is dealt with in the course of performing duties

Ensure that all systems for Information Governance, GDPR, and confidentiality is maintained at all times

Communication

The post-holder should recognise the importance of effective communication within the team and will strive to:

Recognise peoples needs for alternative methods of communication and respond accordingly

Person Specification

Experience Desirable

Experience of working in a GP practice using EMIS General understanding of the primary care contract

Other Essential

UK Drivers licence Not previously been substantively employed at a GP Practice Observance of strict confidentiality Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Ability to listen and empathise Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team Competent time management and organisational skills Adaptable and forward looking with problem solving and a 'solutions focused' approach A demonstrable commitment to professional development Computer literate

Qualifications Essential

Qualified GP with full GMC registration licence to practice, on a performers list Newly Qualified General Practitioner (less than 2 years from qualification)
