Job summary

We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic and motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist to work within the Locality Therapy Team within the West of Cornwall. The team consists of Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Rehabilitation Officers for the Hearing Impaired, a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist and Technical Officers.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for undertaking person-centred, strength-based assessments to enable people who have long term physical health / social care needs to maximise their functional and occupational performance in order to be able to continue to live safely and independently within their local communities. As part of this, you will be involved in focusing upon preventing, reducing and delaying the need for care and support. This, in turn, will help to ensure that our residents, families, and communities have the right support in the right place at the right time.You'll be involved in completing environmental and functional assessments within a persons home, linking in with reablement and rehabilitation services within your Primary Care Network area as and when needed; assisting with the provision of information and advice; provision of equipment; the recommendation of minor and major adaptations and /or rehousing advice, in order to promote the persons wellbeing and independence.Your role will also involve seeking new, creative, innovative, cost-efficient and effective solutions to the persons situation.You may also be involved in seating and/or moving and handling assessments, advising on optimal care where appropriate.You'll need to be innovative with strong interpersonal skills and have the ability to work well under pressure and have an understanding of the six principles of Safeguarding.You will be expected to use evidence-based practice to deliver positive outcomes.

The Role:

You will be entering an exciting but changing and challenging work landscape as we move towards multi-disciplinary, locality-based and strengths-based working within Primary Care Network areas with a closer integrated way of working with our Health colleagues.

Working Pattern:

Monday to Friday 7.5 hours per day generally worked between 8.45am and 5.15pm (formal service hours).

A flexible working pattern can be considered.

What youll need to succeed:

Professional qualification in Occupational Therapy; Diploma, Degree, Masters or equivalent

Professional registration with HCPC.

Extensive experience in working as an autonomous Band 6 Occupational Therapist either within the NHS or Adult Social Care.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Substantial experience of working within an Occupational Therapy setting, through work-based experience. Demonstrable knowledge of current developments in health and social care

Qualifications Essential

Diploma/Degree in Occupational Therapy Health & Care Professions Council registration

Knowledge & Skills Essential

Understanding and application of anti-discriminatory practice Able to demonstrate good time management and organisational skills whilst working within organisational processes and procedures Demonstrable knowledge of current developments in health and social care Be IT literate Ability to work under pressure, able to work in challenging settings. Ability to work independently. Ability to be flexible and adapt to changing situations. Knowledge of key principles of specialist areas of work such as ergonomics, moving and handling, optimal care and building solutions
