Job summary
An exciting new opportunity has arisen due to sabbatical leave for a new or experienced health care support worker to join our friendly, well established training practice in Swansea. We have a list size of approximately 10,500 patients.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a health care support worker to work alongside our associate practitioner and nursing team to deliver essential services to our local community. You will be required to undertake basic observations (blood pressure, and weight), perform ECGs and conduct new patient health checks. Experience of taking blood samples is also desirable but we do provide a great learning environment for staff and would provide training for this.

We are a 4 partner GP practice, with 5 salaried GPs and a supportive MDT healthcare team based in Brynhyfryd, Swansea. We have close links to the M4 motorway and will offer a competitive salary to the right candidate.
Our team includes GPs, pharmacists, physician associate, practice nurses, healthcare assistants and a highly experienced administrative team.
We are part of the Penderi Cluster and actively contribute and assist with delivery of the services and community work developed by the cluster.
We actively work to improve our systems and encourage new ways of working to support our primary care team.

New patient health checks
Undertake health promotion to help educate patients and assess problems
Take ECGs
Suture removal/simple wounds
Able to perform cardio-pulmonary resuscitation according to current UK guideline
Ensures awareness of statutory and local clinical protection procedures, including Safeguarding Children
Chaperoning duties
Processing and management of laboratory samples requested by GPs/Nurses
Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
Assisting in the assessment and surveillance of patients health and well-being
Dressing of wounds that have been previously assessed by the nurse
Blood pressure checks
Height & Weight - BMI
Responsible for the daily checking and recording of temperature for vaccine fridge
Routine checking for infection control and sterilisation management of instruments used in the treatment room
Has a basic understanding of emergency contraception & refers patients as appropriate. Advises on risk of pregnancy and has basic knowledge of contraception options.
Influenza/Pneumococcal/B12/shingles immunisations, will undertake vaccinations as outlined subject to specified PSDs.
Assisting clinical staff for minor procedures clinic
To maintain accurate patient records and document consultations according to practice guidelines

Qualifications Essential
No formal qualifications as practice will provide training
Desirable
Demonstrate commitment to professional development Possess or working towards NVQ Level II Award. GCSEs or similar qualifications Previous general practice experience. Phlebotomy training
