Due to a recent review of the dispensary team and our dispensing output, Ruskington Medical Practice have an exciting opportunity to recruit a new Dispensary Assistant to support our dispensing team.
The duties of a Dispensary Assistant include projecting a positive, friendly image to all the dispensary customers and other visitors while dealing with all queries in a professional, courteous and efficient way.
The core contracted hours will be 24 hours a week. The Dispensary Manager has identified the following hours needing to be covered over 4 days:
Monday 0900 1500
Wednesday 0900 1500
Thursday 0900 1500
Friday 0900 1500
Extra hours may be required to cover holiday and sickness.
Successful candidates should make themselves available for interview, week commencing Monday 17th August.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate must provide a high quality, professional customer service to patients, doctors, and colleagues. They will act as the first point of contact for all patients attending the Dispensary and portray the Practice in the highest possible professional basis. Ensuring all enquiries from patients are efficiently and courteously handled while working alongside the experienced Dispensers.
The ideal Candidate will:
Have excellent communication and customer care skills and compassion for others
Be able to deal with anxious and demanding patients
Possess excellent IT skills
Demonstrate flexibility to support the team, on occasion at short notice.
Be capable of prioritising tasks and remaining calm under pressure
Work to a high professional standard and avoid mistakes, with the ability to learn and reflect from Learning Events
Have excellent communication skills and confidence to liaise with patients and colleagues

The following are the core responsibilities of the Dispensary Assistant:
Acting as the focal point for patients, answering the dispensary phone and the being available to attend to customers at the hatch
Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol/ checking patient exemption statements
Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable
Safe disposal of returned and / or out of date medicines
Supporting the processing of repeat prescriptions, ensuring a 48-hour turnaround is achieved
Process prescription requests
Issuing prepared prescriptions
Deal with any relevant queries via our online Total Triage System, Accurx
Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times
Maintain accurate records at all times, read coding entries appropriately
In addition to the primary responsibilities, the Dispensary Assistant may be requested to:
Partake in audit as directed by the audit lead and Dispensary Manager
Remain current with the latest guidance ensuring the dispensary conforms to SOPs, NICE, CQC etc. guidance
Maintaining effective security of the dispensary at all times
There may be on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; this will be dependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levels.

Desirable
Desirable criteria Experience working in a Dispensary environment Experience working in Primary Care setting Experience using SystmOne or similar Clinical Systems Experience of managing cash payments Experience of managing stock including; rotation, disposal and ordering using online portal.
Qualifications Essential
GCSE Grade C or higher in English GCSE Grade C or higher in Maths
