An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our existing team at West Cornwall Hospital Medical 1
Medical Ward 1 is an acute medical ward/care of elderly who look after a wide range of conditions.
The unit has 27 inpatient beds and cares for adult patients over 18 with various conditions, such as: dementia, post-op trauma patients.
Our team has close links with theatres and surgery,palliative care,pain management, Disability Services Centre and voluntary organisations. Our team consists of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and a liaison nurse.
We also conduct regular in-service training and provide training placements for medical and nursing students.
Main duties of the job
As a member of a multi-disciplinary team, you should possess excellent interpersonal, verbal communication and organisational skills. Keyboard/IT skills are essential and hospital experience is desirable.
As a patient's first and last point of contact with the hospital, special attention should be given at all times to ensuring a positive patient experience by providing a welcoming, helpful and supportive reception service.
The post holder will be expected to: meet and greet patients, carers and visitors on to the unit in line with the Trust procedures.
To maintain and update the Patients Administration System (PAS) following training using training manual and procedures supplied. To admit and discharge patients correctly to enable Clinical Coding to extract the information. The role also includes managing patients' records.
To understand the complete range of administration functions, responsibilities and duties both routine and non-routine to contribute to the effective delivery of patient care, through knowledge of hospital systems and consultant practice.
The post holder will be responsible for accurately collecting demographic and personal details to ensure the Trust captures essential income.
The post holder will be required to work with minimal supervision and have the ability to work under extreme pressure, and be able to exercise sound judgement and decision making skills whilst working as part of a team or under own initiative.

Qualifications Essential
Good level of general education. Achieving at least three 'O' levels/GCSEs or equivalent.
Desirable
Good level of clerical experience. Previous NHS experience e.g. Health Records/Reception Patient Administration System experience.
Practical and Intelllectual Skills (including any special knowledge). Essential
Proven communication skills. Ability to prioritise and manage own workload. Good computer keyboard skills. Prioritising unpredictable workload. Flexible approach to working.
Desirable
Computer literate with Microsoft and associated software package skills
