About this role

Job summary

We have an opportunity for an enthusiastic Healthcare Assistant (HCA) to join our nursing team. We are a happy, established clinical team that is looking for the right Health Care Assistant to join us; someone who is compassionate and has a desire to help patients on a day-to-day basis.

We are looking for an NVQ 3 qualified (or equivalent) Healthcare Assistant to join our team. Previous experience with SystmOne in a GP Practice is desirable. We are offering a salary depending on experience and NHS pension. This is a part time position, hours to be 24 hours per week working Tuesday, Thursday and Fridays 08.30-17.30pm. You will receive training and support to develop your professional career with us.

We require an experienced HCA who is able to perform all the usual routine tasks and functions of this role. You will be working as part of a multi-disciplinary clinical team delivering safe, high quality care.

Main duties of the job

The ideal candidate will have a positive attitude and excellent communication skills. They will work alongside our team of experienced nurses.

Duties and responsibilities in your own clinics will include, but not be limited to;

Undertake new patient health checksSupport the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmesCarry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accuratelyFacilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordinglyUndertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as requiredSupport the Practice Nurse with the management of chronic disease clinicsCarry out BMI checksAct as a chaperoneVenepunctureAdminister vaccinations/injectionsSpirometryCarry out ECGsEnsure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportationEnsure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and preparedMonitor fridges on a daily basisEnsure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policyDeliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriateParticipate in practice audit as directedParticipate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient careSupport and participate in shared learning within the organisation

About us

We are a small friendly GP Practice with around 5300 patients. Our clinical team includes 3 GP Partners, an Advanced Nurse Practitioner and a team of Nurses and Health Care Assistants. We teach Medical Students and are a training Practice for GP Registrars.

Main Responsibilities

Undertake new patient health checks Support the Practice Nurse with health promotion programmes Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature and pulse rate, recording findings accurately Facilitate routine and 24-hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required Support the Practice Nurse with the management of long term conditions Carry out BMI checks as directed Act as a chaperone as required Venepuncture Administer injections e.g. B12 Diabetic foot checks Blood sugar checks INR Spirometry Carry out ECGs as requested Assist GP with minor surgery clinic Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session Monitor fridges on a daily basis Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the organisations IPC policy Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate Participate in practice audit as directed Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care Support and participate in shared learning within the organisation

Person Specification

Qualifications Essential

Good standard of general education including passes at GCSE or equivalent in English and maths NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care

Experience Essential

Experience of working with the public

Desirable

Experience of working in a GP Practice
