Job summary
Surbiton Health Centre PCN has a membership of 3 practices, with a total patient population of just over 30,000. All three practices are situated in a single location, benefitting from a modern, purpose-built health centre that was completed 15 years ago.
We are looking for a new GP Assistant to job share with an existing member of staff, ideally working on Thursday and Friday's (with some flexibility), creating a 0.4 FTE post.
The GPA will support the Practices' GPs in the smooth running of the clinics by performing the more routine administration and some clinical tasks on behalf of the GPs.
Main duties of the job

The role is a combination of administrative and clinical duties:
Administration:
You will act as a key liaison between the admin team, NHS services and patients to promote safe and efficient care.Assist in the management and uploading of information relating to safeguarding documentation and audit.Maintain and monitor emails relevant to the GP and patient care.Sorting all clinical post and prioritising for the GP in terms of actions. Signposting some post to others such as clinical pharmacist etc.Monitoring and assisting the GPs in managing, prioritising, and actioning tasks.Extracting all information from clinical letters that needs coding and adding to notes.Arranging appointments, referrals, tests and follow up appointments.Preparing patients prior to going in to see the GP ensuring the patient has everything they need and is aware of the need to provide accurate and concise information to the GP.Completing basic (factual) forms and core elements of some forms for the GP to approve and sign, such as insurance forms, mortgage, benefits agency forms etc.Clinical
Phlebotomy and ECGs (for example when needed acutely during a consultation with a GP)Observations and take a basic history.Care plan reviewsUse of a dermatoscope to take pictures for uploading to the record and onward review by a GP/clinician

The Surbiton & Chessington PCNs Ltd includes Surbiton Health Centre PCN and Chessington & Surbiton PCN, which work together through a limited company with a joint Board: Surbiton & Chessington PCNs Limited.
The PCNs have 3- and 5-member GP practices respectively, and together account for a total registered population of close to 66,000. The networks have diverse communities including commuter areas, young families, deprived pockets, and frail elderly / care homes.
The PCNs vision is to help to maintain and improve the health and healthcare for our local populations, and the sustainability of our member GP practices, in line with wider NHS strategies and plans.

The objective of the GP Assistant role is to assist the GP(s) in the smooth running of clinics byperforming the more routine administration and some clinical tasks on behalf of the GP which frees up their time to focus on patient care.
This is a relatively new role in the GP Practices, and you will be required to participate in a 6 to9 month work-based learning programme. Learning will take place in the practice, led, and assessed by a GP mentor and completing online training modules.

If the GPA is working with the on call GP they could support by bringing down patients needing F2F review, taking observations and a basic history, before handing over to the GP/clinician,Care plan reviews e.g. dementia reviews and learning disability annual health checks. CONFIDENTIALITY
In the course of your employment, you will have access to confidential information relating to the PCN and GP Practices. You are required to exercise due consideration in the way they use such information and should not act in any way that might be prejudicial to the PCNs interests. Information which may be included in this category which requires extra consideration covers information relating to the general business of the PCN and information regarding individuals.
If the post holder is in any doubt regarding the use of information in the pursuit of their duties, they should seek advice from the PCN Manager before communicating such information to any third party.
In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust the company with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters. They do so in confidence and have the right to expect that staff will respect their privacy and act appropriately. This information is to be treated as strictly confidential. Information relating to patients, carers, colleagues, other healthcare workers or the business of the practice may only be divulged to authorised persons in accordance with the company policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
DATA PROTECTION and GDPR
S&C PCNs Ltd, must be compliant with the Data Protection Act 1998 and GDPR 2018. You must not at any time use the personal data held by the PCN or any of the GP Practices or disclose such data to a third party for a purpose not described in the Register entry. If the post holder is in any doubt regarding what they should or should not do in connection with the Data Protection Act 1998 or GDPR 2018 then they must contact the PCN Manager.
FINANCIAL REGULATIONS
All employees are responsible for the security of the property of the PCN avoiding loss of or damage to property and being economical and efficient in the use of resources.
SAFETY
Employees must be aware of the responsibility placed on them under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 to maintain a healthy and safe working environment for both staff and visitors. Employees also have a duty to observe obligations under the PCNs Health and Safety policies and to maintain awareness of safe practices.
