About this role

Job summary

Experienced, motivated Practice Nurse ideally with a respiratory interest, required for Holmes Chapel Health Centre.

We are a proudly independent and friendly surgery. We are a dynamic team of Doctors, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and Administrators.

The Practice Nurse role is vital and varied and the successful candidate would ideally be able to undertake a full range of core clinical competencies as identified in the job description.

We are looking for that exceptional Practice Nurse who is driven to ensuring excellent care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Provide nursing treatment under the GP direction including injections and immunisations as requested by the GP. This can include but is not limited to: management of chronic diseases (following recall procedure), cytology screening, childhood and travel immunisations, complex wound dressings i.e. ulcers/compression, dealing with minor injuries/wounds, some phlebotomy etc.

Provide health screening with agreed protocols with referral to GP as necessary

Advise patients on general health care and minor aliments with referral to GP as necessary

Act as chaperone to GPs as necessary

Undertake the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, smears, etc. On the spot urinalysis (dip) testing, and perform any investigatory procedures requested by the GP. Ensure that all monitoring processes for patients with chronic diseases are undertaken in accordance with practice policy and in a timely manner.

Ensure accurate notes of all consultations and treatments are recorded in the patients notes/computer records

Ensure collection and maintenance of statistical information required for regular and hoc reports

Assist in the formulation of practice philosophy, strategy and policy.

Liaise with the reception staff to ensure forms and office procedures are maintained

Ensure the adequate maintenance of equipment and stock levels in the treatment rooms, liaising with the Practice Manager.

Person Specification

Experience Essential

Experience of working within a nursing team Experience of dealing with vulnerable patients

Desirable

Experience of working in primary care Experience of working in a GP practice Respiratory experience

Qualifications Essential

NMC Registered Nurse Evidence of post registration training. Continued personal development. Experience in general practice. Clinical observations Sample collections Injections Administration of medications Childhood Imms & Vaccs Cervical Cytology Communication skills verbal and written. IT skills Well-motivated. Positive attitude to work and willingness to learn. Able to Work under pressure Ability to manage own workload and work independently. Ability to support and supervise junior staff as required

Desirable

Chronic disease qualifications/ Relevant post-graduate study. Experience of community working and domiciliary visits. Mentorship of students, experience of teaching. Audit process Experience using EMIS systems ECG
