Role Summary: To lead and manage outbound transportation operations for finished goods, ensuring timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery to customers, depots, or distributors while optimizing logistics performance and service levels.
Responsibilities
• Develop and execute outbound transportation (Full Truck Loads, Part Truck Loads, Courier movements) plans aligned with dispatch schedules and customer commitments.
• Ensure timely vehicle placement and dispatch from plants, warehouses, and distribution centers.
• Optimize route planning and load consolidation to maximize vehicle utilization and reduce freight costs.
• Monitor daily shipment movement and ensure adherence to delivery timelines.
• Identify, onboard, and develop reliable transporter/vendor base across regions.
• Negotiate freight rates and contracts to ensure cost competitiveness.
• Monitor transporter performance (TAT, on-time delivery, incident rate) and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure availability of vehicles during peak demand and contingency situations.
• Manage transportation costs against approved budgets and KPIs.
• Analyze freight spend and identify cost-saving opportunities (mode optimization, consolidation, route changes).
• Monitor detention, demurrage, and penalty costs; implement corrective actions.
• Prepare and present MIS reports on logistics cost trends and savings initiatives.
• Ensure high service levels (OTIF – On Time In Full deliveries).
• Coordinate with sales, customer service, and distribution teams to meet customer delivery requirements.
• Proactively address delivery delays, escalations, and service issues.
• Drive continuous improvement in delivery lead times and customer satisfaction.
• Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements (road permits, E-way bills, GST norms, safety regulations).
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation for dispatch and invoicing.
• Ensure adherence to company policies and audit requirements.
• Manage insurance claims for transit damages and losses.
• Utilize TMS (Transport Management System) and ERP systems (SAP/Oracle, etc.) for planning, tracking, and reporting.
• Drive digitalization initiatives such as GPS tracking, e-POD, automated freight billing.
• Ensure data accuracy and real-time visibility of shipments.
• Track and report key KPIs: OTIF delivery, Freight cost per unit / ton / km, Vehicle turnaround time, Fill rate / load efficiency, Transit damage / claims
• Prepare dashboards and periodic reports for leadership review.
• Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective/preventive actions.
• Collaborate with: Warehouse/Dispatch teams for shipment readiness; Sales & planning teams for demand alignment; Procurement for vendor contracts & Finance for billing, audits, and cost controls
• Ensure smooth coordination across internal and external stakeholders.
• Identify potential transportation risks (strikes, weather disruptions, capacity shortages).
• Develop contingency plans to ensure continuity of supply.
• Manage crisis situations and minimize service disruption.
• Lead and develop transportation team members.
• Set performance goals and conduct regular reviews.
• Drive capability building and process improvements within the team.
• Foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and accountability.
Requirement:
• Master's degree in supply chain, Logistics, Business, from Tier I or II colleges
• 8–12 years of experience in transportation/logistics, preferably in outbound finished goods
• Experience handling multi-location distribution networks
• Strong knowledge of transportation and logistics operations
