About the Team The Differdange plant belongs to ArcelorMittal Europe - Long Products, business unit producing long products (sections, sheet piles, rails) in ten countries in Europe and North Africa for the construction and industry sectors. ArcelorMittal Differdange has: • one electric arc furnace • one continuous caster steel shop with an annual production capacity: 1.35 million tonnes • one rolling mill: the Grey Mill produces heavy beams - including Jumbo sections - and sheet piles (annual production capacity: 740 000 tonnes) • more than 800 employees • more than 100 years of history The Grey mill at ArcelorMittal Differdange holds several world records, including that for the first beam measuring one meter high (in 1911). Differdange currently produces the heaviest beam blank and the longest (1,108 mm) and heaviest beams (1,377 kg/m) in the world. The “QST” or quenching and self-tempering process has resulted in the production of a new generation of exceptionally high quality HISTAR® beams. Combining high yield strength with excellent toughness and welding properties, they have made Differdange famous throughout the world, and are used in the construction of multi-storey buildings. Jumbo sections and high performance steel grades from ArcelorMittal in Differdange also reduce significantly the material weight and accordingly CO2 emissions.
