Are you a senior infrastructure expert who knows how to design, operate, and optimize VMware or Nutanix environments at scale? As a Virtualization & Storage System Engineer, you are responsible for the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of the virtualization and backup infrastructure across multiple data centers. You ensure that hosted systems run in a secure, highly available, and optimized environment . We contribute to a major digital transformation initiative in Belgium, building and maintaining critical infrastructure that supports high-impact legal and administrative services. We are currently looking for a Virtualization & Storage System Engineer to strengthen our infrastructure team and ensure the performance, availability, and resilience of our IT systems. Your mission As a Virtualization & Storage System Engineer, you are responsible for the stability, performance, and continuous improvement of the virtualization and backup infrastructure across multiple data centers. You ensure that hosted systems run in a secure, highly available, and optimized environment . Your responsibilities Infrastructure & Operations Provide Level 2 and Level 3 support for virtualization and backup platforms Design, manage, and maintain VMware vSphere and Nutanix AHV environments Implement and maintain high availability and clustering solutions Monitor and optimize performance, capacity, and storage usage Manage and operate data center infrastructure and hosted environments Backup & Data Protection Design and operate enterprise backup and restore solutions for virtual environments Define and enforce backup SLAs, RPO, and RTO objectives Manage backup policies, retention strategies, restore procedures, and reporting Oversee archiving and long-term data retention strategies Collaborate on Disaster Recovery Plans (DRP) and recovery scenarios Participate in DR testing and continuous improvement of recovery processes ⚙️ Automation & Optimization Automate provisioning of virtual infrastructure and operational tasks Develop scripts for backup, restore, monitoring, and maintenance activities Improve operational efficiency through standardization and automation Continuity & Improvement Proactively manage incidents and communicate clearly in case of SLA risks or breaches Contribute to infrastructure continuity and security initiatives Participate in DR exercises and ensure recovery readiness Collaboration & Knowledge Sharing Document operational procedures for support teams Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams Share knowledge and contribute to technical discussions and team meetings Ensure smooth handover of operational tasks and information Your profile Minimum 7 years of experience as a Virtualization System Engineer, including at least 2 years in a senior role with technical responsibility Strong expertise in VMware vSphere and/or Nutanix AHV Solid experience with backup and data protection solutions , including SLA, RPO, RTO, and archiving Good knowledge of SAN and storage technologies Solid understanding of Windows Server in virtualized environments Knowledge of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, SMTP, etc.) Experience with enterprise monitoring and reporting tools Strong analytical mindset and interest in new technologies Ability to prioritize effectively based on urgency and business impact Customer-oriented and solution-driven approach Languages Dutch or French: passive understanding of at least one national language required English: professional proficiency
