About this role
We are seeking a highly skilled, passionate, and motivated scientist to join our Downstream Process Development team. This role will support downstream unit operations and pilot-scale manufacturing campaigns. The ideal candidate will have experience with AAV purification techniques with skills in data analysis and reporting data. The successful candidate will have a desire to succeed at the highest level to develop gene therapies for patients.
Job Responsibilities:
Downstream Process Development & Optimization (greater than 50% effort):
Execute and troubleshoot downstream purification unit operations including affinity chromatography, tangential flow filtration (TFF), ion exchange chromatography, and ultracentrifugation.Perform buffer preparation, sample collection, and in-process testing.Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and generate technical reports summarizing experimental findings.Pilot-Scale Manufacturing Support (less than 50% effort):
Assist in pilot-scale manufacturing campaigns.Execute batch records with high attention to detail.Perform equipment setup, cleaning, and troubleshooting for pilot-scale unit operations.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
B.S. in life sciences with 4-6 years of industry experience or M.S. in life sciences with 2-3 years of industry experience in downstream bioprocessing.Previous experience in downstream unit operations (chromatography, filtration, centrifugation).Hands-on experience with chromatography techniques including affinity chromatography and IEX.Demonstrate a good understanding of tangential flow filtration (TFF) techniques.Experience with AAV, lentivirus, or other viral vector purification.Knowledge of small and pilot scale process development.Demonstrate critical thinking, be self-motivated, accountable, detail-oriented, have excellent organization and communication skills, and demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision after initial training.Ability to troubleshoot and interpret experimental results and effectively summarize and present conclusions.Ability to work in a laboratory environment and handle occasional light to moderate lifting (up to ~50 lbs).Preferred Qualifications:
Basic knowledge of analytical techniques for protein/viral vector characterization.Knowledge of aseptic techniques and cell culture.Familiarity with Unicorn software.Familiarity with statistical analysis software (JMP, Minitab).Exposure to process automation and single-use technologies.Strong desire to learn new techniques and a willingness to provide upstream cross-training support.
